Gill will get there I feel. 

 

Tough to see Jaiswal, usually openers don't score that many. Kirsten, Hayden, Langer, Graeme Smith, Sehwag Warner all fell in the 8-9k range. Cook got there but also played 160+ tests (in a mere 12 years !!!!!), Jaiswal will be lucky to play 120 and that too if he plays till late 30s.  Gavaskar did score 10k but around 3k of those runs were against Packer rejects. Had he faced only A attacks, he would have retired with stats similar to that of Boycott, 8-8.5k runs and averaging in mid 40s. Before anyone here attacks me, Boyc was a great, great, great batsman, so am not undermining SunnyG. How great was Boycott....at the age of 40-41, he was scoring 100s against WI pace quartet and Lillee-Thommo. Just based on quality of his batsmanship, I rate him above Cook and Gooch (extremely underrated). Only old timers like Hutton, Hobbs, Sutcliffe keep him out of AT Eng XI. 

 

Opening is the most thankless job in test cricket.

Yup, agree. We have a real shot at it, hope we win at least 1 toss. 

 

Indian team always surprises us when we least expect it to, both in good and bad ways. 

 

Hope Bumrah finally fires against them, his main nemesis is also out of the picture. Preserve him just for that series, no need to waste him in useless bilaterals or SL tests.

Can let Bumrah play both tests in SL as you don't want your premier pacer that much undercooked either.  He must have overs under his belt and bowling with red Kookaburra is never a bad idea.

 

Even Aussies let Cummins Hazelwood or Starc play some shield matches before their home summer.

His entire career is based on scoring soft runs against easy bowling attacks, with very few innings that I can remember. Probably the most overrated player with 50+ average and 9k+ runs.

Not sure. I don't rate these Kiwis all that much.   

 

Young is another 34 year old.  They haven't really developed the likes of Rhys Mariu from domestic.

Should have played till Australia series. One of the finest when on song, so soothing to eyes. Remember watching him live at ground at Motera in his debut test 2010, he scored hundred there. Bhajji also socred hundred.

Dunno if you guys remember but that was an epic test series @Lone Wolf @Nikhil_cric. The other test win for NZ came courtesy Azhar Ali who exposed the tail when 10 or so runs were required, bottom 3 of Pooks all made ducks and AA couldn't get those 10 runs despite Pook tailenders standing with him for a good 15 overs. It was 100 times worse than what Jaddu did in Lord's last year. 

 

Lankans ended Pak's unbeaten UAE run in 2017, but IMO it was this NZ series which finished Pak test team for good. 

Yeah that was an interesting series.  Just the second time NZ had won a Test series against PAK in Asia. 

 

They had some luck in that series with respect to tosses and injury to PAK bowlers but boy, did they capitalise and punish Pakistan.

It was the KW + BaZ era actually when NZ stopped being the whipping boys of Pooks.

Great batter of this era, 8000+ runs in both Odi and test.  Came to intnl cricket with big expectations and in many ways lived up-to those.

 

Amongst top batters for NZ- ICT winner, Odi finalist and Player of the tournament , came so close to winning the title. 

 

Think now he will move on to playing some t20 leagues and may be coaching some.

Jadeja reminded me of Azhar ali with his innings last year but AA's innings was worse with much fewer runs to get.

Remember watching his debut test hundred in India back in 2010, he gave world class signs since his debuts. Retires as the ATG kiwi batter. 

 

Kiwis better find 3-4 young batsmen who can take over now. Conway, Latham, Mitchell, Blundell all are on last legs and Ravindra isn't that good in tests.
