What was the magic during WC2015 - how did the team do so well in WC?

Bowling attack of Yadav, Shami, Bhuvi, Ashwin, Ishant, Jadeja?
Did so well in WC2015? How? What was the magic - BOTH before WC and after WC the ODI team sucked, but they bowled like a charm and took 10 wickets in innings many times during WC?

Not playing Aus helped in getting back the confidence. And some of the teams we played except Pakistan and SA were not good teams. So, we had a better world cup.

I still feel India against any other team in Australia will be a more interesting watch.

1. Our boys had been in Australia for months. Played an entire Test and ODI tri-nation series. They were well acclimatized.

2. 4 out of 7 wins came against Ireland, Zimbabwe, Bangladesh and U.A.E.

3. It's the World Cup. They were probably pumped up.

4. Diff set of ODI rules.

We didn't play Aus till SF.  That tactic of short pitch bowling worked against other but won't against Aus.

Mohammed Shami.

+1. Shami was in super form and Umesh worked really well in tandem with him.

4 reasons

1)By the time world cup arrived we had spent over 2 months there and were acclimatised to conditions

2) we played against mostly weak teams. Only strong team we faced was south Africa. Don't count Pakistan because they had a weak team

3) it was world cup. We tend to give our best so that there is no embarrassment like 2007 wc

4) umesh and shami bowled well most of tournament

But once we faced Australia it was game over. Shami also lost mojo by then.

Actually teams perform better when they just go out to have fun. In case of WC, they must be pumped up, especially the bowlers.

But the present loss, you can clearly see that under Dhoni, players are not ' having fun '. They are not their normal self. Dhoni has lost it and I dont think he even has the respect of players. They are just going about their jobs without enthusiasm. I for one, blame the captain for the show. And anyway, a team is as good as the captain.

The team did well because they weren't facing Australia in every match, the moment they did ,they got their @r$e pounded!!

Plus having shami also helped

Even now if we played this series against any other team not named australia,we would be leading the series or maybe 2-2.

Australia just massacres our bowling attack like no tomorrow and demoralize them on the other hand our bowlers will perform way Better against any other team in these conditions

One more factor in addition to listed above. Pitches were a giving a bit help to bowlers.

We should make a note of one thing. If you give a green pitch, you can expect our batsmen to score at least 200 or fighting total and our bowlers will suddenly behave like Ambrose/Walsh etc.. But in case if it is flat track, our batsmen can do nothing more than 300 to 350 and our bowlers aren't capable to defend that.

Remember when we played Sri Lanka in Rajkot in 2009, scoring 418 odd we just won by 3-4 runs in the end. We are bad at defending at on flat tracks. But in helping conditions, we have decent attack.

the magic was we did not play Australia.

If you remember 2015 world cup the semis sort of remaineded me of matches in this series.

But two questions remain:

1. We did beat SA and Pak - both are good teams more than capable of beating us on Aus pitches.

2. And apart from "just winning" - our bowlers were very good - 10 wickets in innings many times repeatedly. So impressive. I think if they can bowl the same way even now in this series - while we may lose this series - we will have 3-2 type series loss, rather than 5-0 which is upcoming. But after WC, we lost ODI series to Bangladesh  and SA-in-India, and other ODI losses too.

SA and Pak are not great ODI teams. SA chocked like they always do.  Our bowlers need time to adjust to the lengths in Australia since we were there two months before they learnt what is good length to bowl.  As Ganguly mentioned our team hasnt done great in last 5 years which is true apart from Champions trophy, world cup. Also Champions trophy was on spin friendly pitches. We sucked big time and still are.
