Captain Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 We scored 4 sixes in the entire innings and 3 of them came in the PP. We scored a total of ONE six in the last 14 overs on one of the smallest grounds in India which is a batting paradise and our commentators were going gaga over our players ability to run doubles. Our approach to batting in T20's needs to change. We are still following the outdated approach of keeping wickets till the end and then launching in the last 4 overs. This approach won't work in the modern game at least on flat batting wickets. Look at the Aussies, English and WI teams and these three teams in particular have a long batting line up and keep going hard even when they lose a couple of wickets. That is the way to play the t20's not our outdated approach. diehardpacer 1
Ranjha Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 Uh oh...it must be Yuvraj Singh in the middle slowing things down
zen Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 As I wrote on the match thread, I can imagine some batsmen flicking the ball for a 6 on this relatively small ground
rkt.india Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 Yes, i said that. We hit 4 sixes, 3 of them by Lolit. WI 10 sixes.
kosingh Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 We misread the wicket a bit, it seems. We were playing like the goal was around 170. Rahane was crap, but it's also hard to blame him. This is pretty much his game.
chewy Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 Since World T20 2009, India has the least number of six hitters after Bangladesh and Pakistan. diehardpacer 1
rkt.india Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 Just now, chewy said: Since World T20 2009, India has the least number of six hitters after Bangladesh and Pakistan. We only have lolit who hits sixes effortlessly and he isn't consistent in t20s.

Singh bling Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 Lets be realistic , majority of our cricketers are timers and 190-200 is maxim score a timers can hit. Unlike West Indies or England we don't have strong Six feet plus hitters , so on this type of pitch where there is just pure hitting either you need very good bowling or very good power hitters
Laaloo Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 Rahane with 2 boundaries in the 15 overs with 6 overs of PP is inexcusable this day and age with flat pitches, short boundaries, big bats.
Vilander Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 maggie rahane..such poorly built brats, eating all kinds of crap i believe, the WI players looked like wrestlers in front of them. diehardpacer 1
New guy Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 Only Kohli has the ability to score very well without 6s. No other batsman in the world can express bowling and Mosher 2
Adi_91 Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 (edited) At OP, You have overlooked the fact that still 59 runs were scored in the last 4 overs. It's not about sixes, it is about accumulating runs and defending the score with good bowling. We did not bowl well at all. Edited April 1, 2016 by Adi_91 Rasgulla 1

On a ground as small as this, on a pitch as good as this scoring a single six in the last 14 overs is ridiculously bad. As for 59 runs from the last 4 overs, we can thank Kohli for that effort. He's the only guy who can score at such a rate without sixes because he PLACES the ball so well. Point being, where are the players that can clear the boundary with ease? diehardpacer 1

I still strongly believe that if had not bowled those no balls, we would have made a match out of it, Batsmen given some of their limitations tried their best.

Of course, there's absolutely no doubt that if the no balls hadn't happened, we might have well won the match. I believe we were 10-15 runs short with our batting effort. Rahane's innings was a match losing innings. All in all, i guess it's safe to say we screwed up big time with both bat and the ball. But, i still am not able to fathom how we only managed to clear the boundary once in 14 overs on probably the biggest patta in India which also happens to have short boundaries.

rkt.india Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 Quote 76.84 Percentage of runs scored by West Indies' batsmen that came in boundaries - 146 out of 190 (six runs came in the form of extras). In all, they hit 20 fours and 11 sixes. The percentage is the third-highest in the 126 innings where 175 or more runs were scored by batsmen. Netherlands' batsmen scored 85.71% of their runs in boundaries against Ireland in Sylhet in the last edition. West Indies themselves had scored 78.22% of their runs in fours and sixes when chasing 232 against South Africa at the Wanderers in January 2015. India, on the other hand, scored only 49.19% of their runs in boundaries, which is the lowest in a total of 175 or more, and the only instance of less than 50% of runs scored in boundaries in such a total.

Which is why you need those 15-20 runs above par to counter the dew factor. Rahane is a moron if he truly believed that 160 would be enough on this ground. WI's chased down 180 against England with ease and then England chased down 230 against SA on this ground. I wonder how this moron thought 160 would be enough. MK55 1
