Ultimate_Game Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 Now the WT2016 is done and dusted and the next World tournament is a few years away, it's time to build for those tourneys. Here's what needs to happen at the very least... 1. Find attacking openers. Dhawan's average in T20s is pretty poor (20 odd) and Rohit is a king of bi-lateral series who doesn't show up in pressure games in ICC tourneys. Plus these guys don't give us a flying start the way Sehwag used to. In T20s you need openers who can take on opposing bowlers and go for a 50+ score in power-plays, and not go at 4-5 overs hoping to accelerate later. This approach to T20 batting is out-dated as WI have shown. 2. Get more hard hitting middle order batsmen, and while we are at it make sure Rahane is never selected for shorter formats. WI have shown what big hitting through the batting lineup can do. We simply don't have that kind of batting firepower and it's time we start giving opportunities to players who can clear the boundary. If likes of Deepak Hooda, Samson, Kedar Jadhav or others have to be given a chance so be it. At least it would be much better than seeing Rahane potter around 35 balls for 40 on the flattest patta in the world where 200 is a par score. 3. Pandya needs to start learning how to bowl a bit fuller. Bowling short of length and short stuff is all well and good, but the teams figure you out for a one trick poney if you don't learn and adjust. most teams and players will be hanging back on thier back foot and tonk him to the boundary if Pandya doesn't start adding good length deliveries, yorkers and change of pace to his armory. 4. Identify more all-rounders. I'm sorry but the days of a team having specialist players exclusively is over. Good LOI sides have up to 2-3, and sometimes 4 all-rounders who can contribute both with the bat and the ball. Maybe one of the reason why we don't have openers go for their shots from ball one is that they know our tail starts when we are 5 wkts down. Likes of Ashwin and Jaddu are fairly useless with the bat in LOIs and it's time we started trying to identify all-rounders. That's why point 3 about Pandya trying to expand his bowling skills is so important. Nash, diehardpacer and tweaker 3
Adi_91 Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 Actually we have the Champions Trophy next year and some of the problems you mentioned are relevant for the tournament as well. diehardpacer and tweaker 2

Not sure what we can fix by next year except kicking out Rahane, but we need to have a plan to address most of the items by the time World Cup rolls in 2019.

IPL should tell us which Indian player does well. I expect Nohit and Dhawan to continue their flop show unless these guys take a break. Likes of Shreyas Iyer and others should step up as this could be the opening for them to be considered for selection. I hope we get to see some Indian players (unknowns) doing well. tweaker and diehardpacer 2

You keep blaming bowlers for captain's failed tactics. It was Dhoni's strategy to bowl short. He can bowl full too. He did that in Australia T20s.
vayuu1 Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 Guys like shreyas iyer, sky, Deepak hooda, kedar jhadav, nair, negi, Sarfaraz khan, sanju needed to be nurtured properly , along with pandya, the thing is the three all rounders(hooda, negi and pandya)can smack it big and iyer, sky, sanju, nair and jhadav can play unorthodox shots. Sarfaraz needs to work on his fitness though. tweaker 1
chewy Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 Moving forward...Dhoni should resign from captaincy but continue playing as wkt-batsman. I am think he is aiming to complete a decade with India under his captaincy, so will probably lead India into 2017 CT and then resign.

Sehwag int rec was actually quite poor in t20, but still the basic idea is to have someone like him, warner, even sharjeel for matter who cud give flashing starts. Dhawan n rohit perfomances have been our biggest problem. Neither they did give fast Neither they did survive when wkts were tough Neither they converted starts Percentage of dot balls were pretty high. Basically no show

That's why point 3 about Pandya trying to expand his bowling skills is so important. Agree with most points, Wud add We have to rem next t20 wc is in australia, Wi did well in India due to smaller grounds, dew. Conditions wud differ in australia. 180 wud be winning totals there. Big grounds and hard grounds. 1. Batsman shud not only have gud hitting ability they shud also be able to run well btw wkts. Strike rotation becomes really important there and also fielding becoems cruical. Guys like Sarfraz n Kedhar jadhav with their pot bellies , well they have to work hard on fitness to get in. 2. Pandya needs to play a lot games to gain exp n control in bowling which m sure wud be enough by then. 3. Identifying leg spinner which is very crucial in australia . Need to groom Kuldeep yadav as well. Leg spinner wud lay huge role . 4. Jadeja has done well as spinner n fielder in aus , so i wud definately keep him. His problem arises when ball is soaked wet due to dew which is with most spinner that wnt happen i australia. On those long grounds u need a gun fielder like him 5. Identifying Fast bowlers. Nehra g wnt be and it wud mean bumrah alone. Who knws ppl might ahve figured bumrah out by then or fitness issue. Need few gud t20 bowlers with yorker and variations which is most crucial. 6. Bcci shud allow our player to play a few more leagues which do not clash with our domestic calender means most in eng n Wi. But wud be gud for exposure.

The guy drops tons of catches every season for KKr consistently, not much of use with bowling. Wud fire in 15 innings and that to against a team filled with spinners only. His 100 against sa in sa was superb but didnt grow n worked hard as a cricketer which jadeja did
vvvslaxman Posted April 4, 2016 Posted April 4, 2016 We need six hitters who can hit sixes of pace bowling in the death. Someone with brute force. Jadeja and Ashwin have to start hitting the gym lol
