kl Rahul, Pujara and Murli Vijay are really slow batters in a test match ...if the bowling goes one level Up..these guys have the capability to score at 2 runs an over for 60 overs...we cant be playing all the three together in the 11.

india has to target to score at 3.5 runs an over to win in a Test match too if they wanna WIN or else Wi will save the test match.

virat and rahane may find it tough to score at a brisk rate if all these 3 score 50's in 150 balls each. there are very high chance that these 3 could score a 50 each too...but yes if these 3 will play together windies have great chances to draw the match.

Beauty of a Test Match is that Many So called experts think that Test means dig in and PLAY SLOW but the winners don't do that.

wining team has to not only score more runs then the opposition but also score runs at a faster rate and give their Bowlers a Chance to get opposition Batsman OUT. if the bowlers don't get enuf opportunity the match turns into a DRAW....

so I am against playing Pujara, Rahul and Murli together 2 of the 3 are enuf.

Pujara rahul vijay all can change gear if they have to yes not an extent of other but still will do decent. Rahul has the power game .

N whom do u want to play Dhawan n Rohit walking wkts n even if they score runs it will harm the team more as they get a chance to play rubbish in next 20 test matches.

1st u need proper batsman n if they can play fast thats an advantage but no point having walking wkts for the sake of RunRate.

While facing west indies Run rate shudnt be much of an issue as their bowlers lack discipline so they will offer freebies every now n then.

According to CI - Ishant, Shami and Binny had a lengthy spell in the training session. Umesh, Bhuvi and Shardul didn't ball that much. All 3 spinners had a long workout too. So it looks like Ishant, Shami, Ashwin, Mishra and Binny/Jaddu will be our bowling attack. Would have preferred Umesh instead of Shami as Shami looked quite rusty in the practice matches.

True. Umesh (although a spray gun) offers the pace option. Surprised that Kohli is not showing the intent to go with him.

As long as shami bowls with 100% intensity i dnt mind . In Aus n Eng he wasnt doing it, his pace was down n by his run up n action it looked clear he was holding back. I hope he doesnt as he has a lot of skill.

As far as skills are concerned both Umesh and Shami very similar skills. Both can move the new bowl around, can bowl decent bouncers and are very good with the old ball. Both have a tendency to spray the ball sometimes. Umesh beats Shami as far as pace is concerned but not by much.

Kohli has openly endorsed Shami skills, maybe he has high hopes from Shami. He wants Shami to be his goto bowlers

Umesh bowled really well in the last test series we played and especially in the last test. Got reverse swing at 140 k to 150 k and picked up quite a few wickets on a slow track.  His below par performances in LOIs have little meaning in test matches. I hope the team management does not confuse formats.

If the pitches are slow and grass-less  then reverse swing and pace in the air would be important.  Umesh and Shami would be better picks in that case.  If the pitches have bounce then Ishant is a must.

He was good in Delhi but that's only one match....failed in the other matches he played.

Umesh played just 2 test matches in that series.

In the Delhi test he picked up 5 wickets at an ER of 1.24

In the Mohali test match, he bowled just 9 overs in the whole match as the spinners were getting a lot of help and  had an economy rate of 2.11.

He bowled in good areas in both test matches and hence the good ERs.

I like the idea of 5 specialist bowlers even at the cost of making the batting weak. Anyway, from Rohit, its a gamble when it comes to scoring runs in this batting lineup.

I hope Mishra gets some kind of run. We need to develop a good leggie if we have to do well in all sorts of conditions. Look at what Yasir was able to do. Mishra is the best leggie we have.

While i agree in principle. I should note that there appears nothing develop-able with Mishra, he is well and truely developed and all he can ever be at the moment.
