Views on Manish Pandey

New players need more game time, with Dhoni now bullying his way to number 4, we might as well drop Pandey, KL and bring back some oldies.

Pandey has no issues wth short ball and seems to be a very busy player..

I would rather replace Raina with Pandey in ODIs and T20s 

 

i dont see Raina improving his game vs short pitch stuff

Fact # 1: Dhoni, at the moment, is an insecure captain. His batting form has been rotten for a while, and he does not have the luxury of switching to test format to release pressure.

 

Fact # 2: Virat's recent successes in the test format is only going to fuel his anxiety further.

 

Fact # 3: An insecure captain worried about his own place is *not* going to groom younger and newer talents. Even worse, he might sabotage them to stay afloat himself.

he is kind of like ROhit. a very talented player with lot of shots which sometimes leads to his downfall.

 

question is now what will he make of these chances and will he show mental strength to improve.

You really think that its a coincidence that Rohit started scoring runs after he was moved to opening ? I dont deny that he is one of the cleanest striker of the ball . One of the few batsmen in the country who can hit big off quick bowlers , but you need a lot more than that to do well @ 5 or 6 . if you do not give Rohit the cushion of Power plays at the start of his innings , hes a 25 avg players with sr of 75 , which he was before he was gifted the opening slot .

He has been dropped from what I remember from his IPL franchise plenty of times cause of these consistency issues. One hopes it was down to youth. Cause he does the ability.

The big issue I have with Pandey is that he is binary. Either a nothing score or a big score.

 

Will not be surprised if he gets 5 ducks in a row. Will not be surprised if he gets 5 centuries in a row.

That is more like KL Rahul's game. After that century in Australia back in Jan, we didn't play much ODIs. It's understandable that he's feeling little out of touch.

He's been trying to bat like Maxwell. Extremely high risk shots. Temperament has always been this guy's issue. He will have to tweak his game to last in int'l cricket.

Fortunately he hasnt complained yet of shuffling his batting order like Raina did last year..May be because his place isnt cemented yet..Pandey scored century playing at 4 when Rahane wasnt available for sydney odi..Why not play him at 4 for whole series??

Because Dhoni is struggling to finish games nowadays and so we want to bat him up the order where he is our best no.4

Means the youngsters whoever it is (Pandey/Rahul/Jadav/Rainaetc) have to learn to bat at 5 and 6 and finish games .

No point trying to play him at no.4 when we already have a quality player there and need finishers .

Classic case of bad timing by selectors.  I've ranted about this for a long time.  They don't give these guys chances when they are in great form and high confidence, but draft them in years later when their morale is low and pressure is high.  And then expect them to perform immediately.

What exactly will his role be in the team? Jadhav outperformed him with the bat this series.

Once Rahul and Dhawan are back, a decision has to be made whether Rahul will open or bat at No.5.

 

Dhawan has been really good in ODIs in the recent past.  If he opens with Rohit then Rahul will have replace Pandey at No.5. Jadhav will be preferred over Pandey as he can be our 6th bowler...unless Raina replaces Jadhav.

 

Either way....looks difficult for Pandey to retain his place in the 11.

Dhawan-Rohit will continue. They are a good, settled pair. Kohli is Kohli.

 

4, 5, 6 and 7 will form the spine of the batting. 3 spots up for grabs since MS will be playing. Rahul, Pandey, Jadhav, Hardik, Axar and Raina are the realistic candidates. One of them will have to play the big hitter's role since MS will not play lower than 5. If Pandey or Rahul play, they play in the top 5. Jadhav, Hardik, Axar and Raina will compete for 6 & 7.
