So how long is the rope for Saha?

Jeff Dujon and Deryck Murray were in the Saha mould, weren't they part of that ATG WI side? Gilchrist is a recent phenomenon, as is Andy Flower. Sanga the keeper was underwhelming with the bat. Boucher again played close to 150 tests and was more or less like Saha. Before Gilly the template was to have a safe keeper rather than a good batsman who could keep, were none of those teams good? Why should we follow the Aussie template, let us create our own template and build a team accordingly. We have so many other things to worry about if we want to become a dominant team, Saha is not a problem that deserves all the scrutiny. In fact because of our weak catching we desperately need a great keeper to minimize the damage.

If we have a good fast bowling A/R in Pandya at no 6, 2 out of Jaddu/Bhuvi/Ash at no 7 and 8 with Saha as no 9 isn't that good enough to become a dominant team? This way we have a long and dangerous tail with the GOAT keeper who makes 1 mistake in 8 innings, what more do you want? Let us build a team based on our strengths/weaknesses rather than trying to imitate the ATG teams of yesteryear. Our present problems are our top 5, team selection and slip catching...Saha should not be a a punching bag just because he is the quiet kid.

Plus Saha is a gritty bat.

I expect him to play clutch knocks overseas too.

All of our tailenders have one or two innings especially on Indian conditions . Play bk up the order , am pretty sure with more opportunities he will play few more of those knocks.

Saha scored an amazing 100 with India 129 for 5 in WI. You would also be glad to know that since his comeback he has been averaging over 40 both in 2016 and 2017. All his 3 centuries have been in recent years. Yet you claim he somehow cannot bat? Just for perspective Dhoni averaged 33 in 2014

There is a good chance dujon or murray May not have had long careers if they where playin today . In the past we dint expect bowlers to be good fielders , we dint drop batsmen cos of fitnness , the lower order could barely hold a bat ..these days for eg Ashwin probably plays ahead of jadeja cos of his batting . So a wk who bats at 7 ,it's imperative that hes more than decent with the bat .

I do agree that hes least of our problems for now , there a few more holes we need to fill first .

We may not make a Gilchrist out of Saha who is already 33 years old and not that type of batsman. But we can potentially identify some new Gilchrists from the domestic scene and make them Saha's understudy for the next couple of years, whilst also allowing them to travel with the team. This way they will get 1st hand experience of keeping to Ashwin, Jadeja, Bhuvi etc in the nets and may be when Saha is injured or we are playing a weak side, expose 1/2 of those talented kids to the international stage. Start the mentoring process right from the Eng tour, Saha can be the Ian Healy to potential Gilchrists and Andy Flowers. This is what Aussies did with Gilly, took him to many tours as 2nd keeper and gave him his debut only in 1999 when he was 28 years old !!!!

For what it’s worth Saha has an IPL 100 and a 90+ score where as we call a player with 125 s/r in T20 as an aggressive and destructive T20 bat

A keeper has to be able to keep first...batting is a bonus and Saha is the best keeper in India....you have to be almost a Kohli level bat if you have average keeping skills and go up in the pecking order....Saha can be a no.x1 but doesn’t change the fact that he deserves a shot over everyone else...how difficult is it to understand? In test cricket you can’t afford mistakes because it is

risk free Cricket to begin with.

Is this one of your gems like Yuvraj is the best Middle order bat in India in 2017 or you have to be selfish to score 200’s in odi?

Lol when did I say that yuvi was best bat in 2017 or that I have to be selfish to score 200 ?

On saha , have we tried anyone else that we know for sure there is no other keeper in India who can catch aswell as bat ?

Who do you have in mind?

I can think of

Pappu Patel and DK- Big NO

Naman Ojha-what happened here?

Pant/Kishen-too young and raw for tests but they should start preparing them through LOIs which would mean phasing out Dhoni so you might not like that

Rayudu/Rahul/Uthappa/Jadhav- part time keepers...do you think they should keep in an overseas test match?

Samson- see above.

so why don’t you educate us who  should be tried instead and who is better?

Does Dhoni have any nephews that we can fast track?

We don't try wicket keepers in t20 where we have been playing a specialist keeper for the last 7 years and you want us to try in a test match overseas :cantstop:

I honestly dont see him more than a no8 , hes a very good keeper for pace bowling ..a 33 year old with no upside . If we want India to be a side which can dominate for next few years , then hes simply not good enough . We seem to be happy with him just cos the other guy dropped catches and he dint .

That is because, in simple terms, when you have a once-in-a-generation keeper, keeping to a mediocre bowling attack (which India is, we are a one-trick pony at home and trying to keep our head above the abroad), its very difficult to justify having an inferior keeper, when the batting dividends are not astronomically greater.

A keeper who turns half-chances into outs, saves a crap ton of byes and has amazing glovework, as long as they are not batting like a specialist bowler, they are not a liability to the team.

Only good/great attacks can afford to pick the inferior keeper due to batting strengths, because good/great attacks can easily generate 30-40 chances per match if required. Ours cannot. For us, taking 20 wickets overseas is like a monkey trying to climb an oiled coconut tree.

Oh he has a very long rope, but will end up hanging himself.

Mentally finished, disintegrated. Has no aggression, we need players with no fear. No need to even sledge such a weak bacha.  He looks like a poor street cleaner, packa nerd quiet boy.

Patel had massive rough outside his off stump v premier SA bowlers and was driving like a boss, using his feet. Fearless. Took world class delivery to remove him.

Saha, forget good delivery. Kind of useless player that will fall to any bowler. Whether attacking or defending. Can be bowled randomly, edge, lbw. Sucks.

Dar ke samne jeet hai: Patel, Puj, Jaddu, Pandya, Kohli, Gabbar and many in our team have this trait.

Patel dropped two, one was difficult. 2 he didn't attempt because of misunderstanding due to Kohli.

A wicketkeeper who doesn't attempt due to misunderstanding with slips is the definition of a crap keeper. Parthia doesn't belong in the team. Saha does. Because the job is to keep wickets. Something Saha excels at and Pappu sucks at.

He is no angel.. He messed up many as well LOL..This is one of many. This guy is average keeper against spinners but thàt doesn't suit their agenda. Funny how they give stick for Wade for being just a keeper who cant hold bat..but it's different when it gets to Saha LOL

Dont say anything bad about Wridhman Saha.

He bats better than Bradman.

His wkt keeping is better than anyone else in the world.

He can do no wrong.

He can cure cancer and heal wounds.

He walks on water.
