Generally over the years monsoon ends in Nov. You can't have test matches in Chennai from March to June/July due to the scorching heat. So the only period ideal is the 3 months between Dec and Feb. So having a match in second half of Dec (last test of the series) is fine.

The best time to have test cricket in Chennai is during 3rd week of January during Pongal holidays .

It did not rain today,the consequences of vardah seem to be felled trees and power cuts both of which should not affect cricket.Expect a full game with overcast conditions aiding swing

Hope they make a turning track. In which a result can be enforced in 3 days. Keeping the rain in mind there is a chance we might get a result.

 

Its good we have finger spinners. Not a good idea to play with wrist spinners when the surface is wet.

There is always rain during Karthigai Deepam(first weeks of dec) in Chennai. But it will usually stop after that, not even showers. Most probably it will be a moist cool period.

you also forgot 2012 India-Pak Ist ODI. There was rain around at that time too.

The tnca president gave interview saying both pitch and outfield are safe and only score board has suffered damage .

As for the pitch , will definitely be surprised if it isn't ready as there was rain disturbances leading up to yesterday so they had enough time to prepare

I hope you are right. I rather have a game then no game. It is pathetic though to select a venue if it rains that much there but hopefully we can get a full game and then achieve 4-0.

 Interestingly - the betting companies like bet365.com who factor all this in the result odds as of now for the Chennai test have ...very long odds for a draw ( 3/1 )

 

They would be washed out with odds such as 3/1 if most well informed people think its going to be draw because of rain .

 

Therefore i would bet on the BBC weather forecast.

 

We should get 4 days play at the least .....

 

 

I would rather believe Met department in Chennai than BBC weather forecast.

Having lived in London for few years, even Londoners consider BBC forecast as shyt.

With the usage of Technology, things are getting better in India in terms of ticket sales and distribution. I remember having camped up in the queue the previous night for purchasing ticket for the Ind / Pak test in 1999. The test that was famous for Sachin's back pain century and India losing by 16 runs after his exit.

Last week, for the Mumbai test, I purchased all day tickets through kyazoonga. But I had to still stand in the queue to collect the tickets. However this queue is smaller than the direct purchase queue.

Now to the question on getting into the stadium and why there are long queues - this is partly due to the stadium layouts and the development of other buildings and roads around the stadium. Chennai's MAC is surrounded on 3 sides by very narrow lanes and only one side has a wide road. Hence this makes it difficult to reach all gates by your own vehicles. You'll have to park elsewhere and queue up long winding lines. This applied to both Chennai and Mumbai. However Bangalore's Chinnaswamy is surrounded on 3 sides by wide roads and hence has easy access. But if you are smart, you'll either get to the stadium 1-2 hours earlier to beat the queue or 1-2 hour late so that everyone has already got in and you can go in swiftly (downside is missing some play)

Toilets, cleanlines have hugely improved in last ten years. There is hardly anyone smoking in the stands and not even in the area where they sell food. Bathroom facilities are good. I have been to Sydney Cricket Ground and Lord's - I dont see major difference now between foreign stadiums and our own in terms of cleanliness. Only thing is dust which is unavoidable in India, but you can take some newspaper with you clean the seats before you sit.

The stadiums that got renovated during CWC 2011 like Chennai, Mumbai now have lifts for all stands. Some of them may not be working, but since there are so many of them, you'll still find one working and get to the stand you want.

Someone did say that they should switch the venues. Give the Pune test from Aus series to England and give Chennai in  Feb to Australia.

There would be cricket, but there wont be a result. Thats all I am saying :) And dont purchase season tickets. Wake up every morning,  see if it looks like raining or not and then goto the stadium. I once got a season ticket, went to the ground every day and watched a grand 2 and half sessions of play on the 5th day :)
