Virat Kohli planning to play county cricket in England to prepare for India's 2018 tour

Virat is thinking too much about English conditions and his one failure back in 2014. Media/ English players is also adding fuel to the fire. He is too good a player not to succeed in Eng with or without county. He just need to relax a bit. And even if he fails in Eng again...he will still go down as ATG batsman. Ponting couldnt buy a run in India..western hypocrites will never question him and call him as ATG.

There we go, we would expect that from any rudimentary professional. But one is not aware of the compulsions that an Indian cricketer under BCCI is facing, good on Kohli to be the first one to come out and say that he would like to play county cricket to improve his England game.

Guys who struggle in Aus and SA can follow suit to the respective domestics for shortish strategic stints if they are viable.

You know where you need to come Virat. Not sure we have the money like. Suspect it would be Surrey or Middlesex (the two grounds least "English" in terms of conditions). If money isn't an issue for him, obviously Headingley is the best place for him to truly learn about English conditions.

Have a word with Sachin and Che!

I think its not a question of money, its purely down to cricketing skill development. I think he will aim for a club that will help him with that, but of-course the club would have to see value in him as well, i reckon most clubs would.

If we still had Dizzy I reckon we'd be favourites. Unfortunately I doubt he'll have a clue who Andrew Gale, our former captain promoted straight to Head Coach, is. His lack of experience as well as his lack of pulling power for big names were the main reasons for me doubting the merits of his appointment. Pujara will know Gale though so maybe he can point Kohli in the right direction.

He needs to skip IPL 2018 and then go county...may be Durham? Can acclimatize for couple of months before rest of the team arrives.

He can skip a week+ only and that will give him a month. Just ensure RCB finishes out of playoffs

I think other specialist batsmen need it more than Virat especially the one who broke his finger. That guy was going through a purple patch, yet still didn't dominate and score massive runs in any overseas tour.

Other test players who are not regulars in their IPL sides (M Vijay, Pujara, J Yadav, V Aaron, A Mukund) should also play county cricket during the IPL window...

No one is going to skip IPL, not even Virat .Even he clearly mentioned going to county depends on the gap between start of England series and end of IPL.

So not sure how realistic it is For me better option would be playing a 2 test series against Ireland before the England series .That will give our players (not just Virat) proper preparation in similar conditions .

The likes of England Australia South Africa use Bangladesh to prepare for India tour , we should be doing the same with Ireland imo

New Zealand conditions are as close to England as possible.

Their summer/season is Nov-Feb.

Does not clash with IPL.

Best alternative to England is to prepare there.

Our old man John Wright would be more than willing to help recreate England conditions there and help in preparation for a price.

Don't think New Zealand domestic teams are allowed to play foreign players just like Ranji Trophy or shield cricket.

Only county cricket allows slot for foreign players .

ON 2009 tour to NZ, likes of Dhawal Kulkarni and one 1-2 more players I dont remember the name of, played for NZ domestic teams for preparation.

I remember that as well but that was a special dispensation by NCB though as we didn't have time for warm ups due to the schedule .

Just an exception.Doubt they would do that so that we can prepare for England tour .
