India ODI squad for England series with all this injuries and CT17 on the horizon

Rohit,Hardik,Shami and Akshar are all injured while Umesh,Ashwin,Jadeja and Jayant are rested as we have got 5 more test matches

to play and we need them fresh so they should be rested. I've picked Nathu as Aaron is still injured.

I've updated the squad as more players have got injured.With Jadeja,Ashwin and Jayant all set to be rested and Akshar

injured I've added Hooda as a no.7.Hooda and Kedar will do the 5th bowler's job.With lot of players rested and injured

this looks a weaked and depleted side while the main squad should look like this when everybody is fit:-

Rohit,Dhawan,Kohli,Dhoni,Rahul,Nair,Hardik,Jadeja,Ashwin,Shami,Bumrah. Reserves:- Pandey,Pant,Akshar,BK.

--  Umesh, Ashwin rested after a hectic 5 test series

-- Nathu Singh has a good fast, swinging yorker. If he comes off then he can form a formidable pair with Bumrah in LOIs. He has  excellent List A and domestic T20 stats too.

-- Ishant is not good enough for  LOIs.

-- Shardul Thakur needs to be tried in international cricket.  He is an accurate pacer.

-- Need to have big hitters from No. 6 to No. 8...No.5 should be a good hitter too and should be able to bowl a few overs.

-- In the absence of Hardik Pandya, both  Jadeja and Axar need to play as they can hit big and are economical ODI spinners.

-- Rohit, Shami, Hardik are injured.

OK.  Manish Pandey scores a match-winning ODI 100 in Australia to beat Australia, so he should be benched at the first opportunity to play Nair because he scored 300 in test cricket.

Pandey batted in all the 5 ODIs vs NZ and his scores were 17,  19,  28,  12    0.  

 

He  has looked a bit out-of-touch  recently and threw away his wicket  multiple times playing loose shots in non-slog overs.  No reason to be happy about that aspect or reward it.

 

I  anyway feel that Pandey is more of a top 4 batter in ODIs.  He is not much of a slogger but a busy player with good strokes. Since Dhoni has decided to bat at No.4...I am anyway not too keen to play Pandey at No.5 unless his current form is good.

On a serious note...Nair over Pandey for now....or play both-Don't rate Jadhav too highly even though he outperformed Pandey recently

In this team there are 4 full time and 2 part time bowlers although there are 6 bowling options.  There are many  new-age big hitters and trying Raina, who has not been in great form recently, maybe a step backward.

Good team, but I will play Mishra instead of Akhshar as Mishra is really good in ODI'S. also we need to start using Ashwin/Jadeja if we are to take them to England. Can not afford to keep them out of ODI'S every time.

 

I like the Right-Left opening combination of Rahul and Dhawan. Also, I am fine to see Pandey come up on no. 4 if not Dhoni. . We also have finisher in Raina and Kedar, though we can surely try someone new too.

Thank you..  no way is dhoni not going to play raina in indian conditions..raina will be in the scheme of things for CT as well..dhoni is under pressure to win due to virat's exploits..he will most likely bank upon experience in this series..

Problem is...Raina averages just 25 in the last 2 years against non-minnow sides in ODIs.  

 

That is  loss of form for an extended period.

maybe a quickfire 30-40 is all we might need from d no.6 since the top 5 are pretty solid bats capable of scoring big..obviously scoring that much is d minimum requirement..

Get some young blood who has match winning abilities this series.  This lack of exp and being defensive formula of going with tried and tested failures will take us no where. 

Dhawal, mishra, jadhav, raina( to some extent) are just below avg cricketers with so many limitations. Raina contributes in so many ways that he can still be kept i squad but others are just below avg cricketers. Avg crickters dont make a champion side.

 

Get in hooda, nair, pant, kuldeep , chahal, rajpoot, sanghwan, nathu few of them in this n t20 series. Every champion sides loopholes are always plugged with young exciting talent. Get in some youngsters who can improve to next level rather guys who cant take their game much above their current level. Despite having solid players we lack x factor and thats what we should look for.

Why blame only the captain, coach selectors equally have a say

 

All these avg bloke were selected under patil n co. The minute dhoni got pandya he used him to the fullest and openely disapproved of rishi's ability

 

Didnt kumble ask for gambhir n didnt kohli for bhajji last year. Blaming everything on person is extremely unfair. Its no hidden truth that dhoni has no faith in mishra but the reality is how can he be dropped with that 6 wkt haul . He was given jadhav and credit to dhoni for using him as bowler over kohli n rohit . 

 

 

For me more than captain n coach its selectors who have to take these harsh calls.

Our selectors have not always been able to  choose the best talent even in A teams. In the last A tour,  Pandya and some others were left out and then selected on Dravid's request IIRC.

 

Their choice of new fast bowlers and wrist-spinners have not always been spot on.  I see a lot of new talent in these 2 areas but very few are being taken to the next level.

Agree they havent been good. That is the main job of a selector to identify the right talent. I was happy to see msk prasad talking about the value of pandya,s pace before his selection in test series. With this bunch time will tell . Whatever i have read about their thoughts seems encouraging. The talent on offer right now is very tempting and it can put our team in evry format at top for yrs.

Raina needs to come in Coz we need experience as finisher With newbies playing around him..
I dont think Dhoni will drop down to 5 or 6 now. Kohli has played non stop in odi and test and
He will be given rest as well...If Yes then Pandey/karun can play ..

Sran Coz he is a Left armer and gives Variety...Cant just go With 2 seamers
when the 5th & 6th Bowling Options are spinners.. Pant should be tries as he is 
attacking left -hander...
