Will Pakistan make history in Sydney?

They have a decent chance to secure their first DRAW in Australia in over 22 years.

With plenty of rain today and yesterday night, and some good batting from Azhar Ali and Younis, Pakistan is in decent situation right now.

2 full days to go with one more session today. They are currentlyl 161 runs away from avoiding the follow on. Even if they get bowled out, I doubt Smith is going to give them follow on going by his recent history.

 

Total trail is 361.

 

Can Pakistan draw this game?

That draw in 1990 was actually rain affected game. Only One and half days of play was possible.

There was a test match I remember in 1999 in Hobart I think,  they had a decent chance of winning, Australia had to chase 350+ in the last inningsand were half down for next to nothing, Gilchrist smashed a hundred and since then they haven't come close

That series they lost 3-0, even India did lose 3-0 that time in the same year.

 

That game you talked about was when Gilchrist and Langar had a p'ship.

Yup, if I remember right, the game was the second one, if they had managed to win that one they would have been back in the series.

 

Our series I remember far more clearly, it was a terrible series for us, the only bright spot was Laxman's brilliant innings in the last test match

Batsmen unaccustomed to bounce. Pak only gets to tour every 5-6 years. Batsmen get one tour, maybe two tours.

 

Lack of lateral movement is the other big factor as Pak bowlers depend on swing/seam/reverse.

 

Compare Pak's record in NZ and England where there is lateral movement and it is better.

Actually, the correct reasoning is when there is lateral movement the Pakistani bowlers are very good and can bowl the opposition out cheaply. This way, the batsmen when they click together may sneak in a victory for the team.

In case of India, batsmen are troubled by the lateral movement more and the record in not that great. It is alright in Australia where pace and bounce are the only issues. I mean, Indian batsmen are good there and even if their bowlers are so-so, they might sneak in a victory or two like Adelaide 03 and Perth 08.
