Umesh Yadav needs to skip international 50 overs for a while

He's more like Steyn, World class in Test format and average in limited-overs. When Dhoni is keeping wickets, he tend to go for a lot of runs. Constantly watching that ugly mug when bowling is a difficult job to do.

I won't go that far though. Umesh isn't world class by any means in Test. I mean that is just reserved for few special bowlers. He is good so far in Test according to the India/Eng series recently. But no where world class.

Should stick to test cricket.
Was never good in LOI's

Last 2 years 25 matches 41 wickets  avg 31.12 econ 6.18

That is a really good record. That is no joke when 300 + are considered par scores these days. These days consistently taking wickets is the key. You have to keep taking wickets. That's the only way you will restrict teams from scoring 330 +. You can't just contain because of power plays. Umesh does just that.  He was really good against NZ. Let's give him two more games before we end his career. And lol for those people trying to pimp up bhuvi. He has been useless too. Yeah he has been a bit more economical but he can barely take wickets which is the key.

You now something . He actually did not bowl as bad as seems

Roy up top played some glorious shots against him . Balls bowed at 88 mph hitting top of off twice Roy whipped it through mid wicket for 4.

then came back and hit stokes in full flow lol

shit happens like this in odi format. Bowlers  nightmare these days

bumrah got licked at end as well and he is one of best death bowled we had . Bowled 3 full tosses as an example

Frankly, I don't care whether we bring back Bhuvi or try someone else, fact is that Umesh has been abysmal in ODIs right from the time he started. He is neither wicket-taking nor economical. Seriously, I am up for trying any Tom, Dick or Harry instead of this guy in ODIs. He is only in the team because he pleases the speed gun gods, which includes the captain. Wow, what pace, 145!! Doesn't matter if the ball got smacked for a six. All that matters is the speed registered on the speed gun. Don't know what he does with all that pace - you will hardly ever seen him bowl a decent short ball spell targeted at the body.

only one that matters...

muhahahaha

It's much harder for BK to increase his avg speed by 10kph than for Umesh to change his ODI line and length. Kohli might want to invest in Umesh because of that.

Also BK seems to get injured more often for a 120k bowler, even after his recent come back, his speed increased for few spells before going back to 120's. If you can't reach high 130's at least for few spells, then you shouldn't be in the team as "pace" bowler. Maybe he is a vegeterian who wants to stick to his diet, nothing wrong with it, but he is going to be handicapped with that.

In this new batting pitches era, even Hardhik Pandya is a better investment for future than BK. Personally, seeing 120k bowlers in first spell of a test/ODI match is sad, reminds me past indian bowling trundlers.

How many years has Umesh been economical?

Umesh has a much better ODI average both in the last 2 years as well as overall.

While considering selection issues, recent  ability and form are what matter.  We have seen in the recent past that both Umesh and Bhuvi are not economical but Umesh picks wickets and Bhuvi does not.

I thought you were comparing economy rates. How many years has Umesh been economical? His average is not that great to not consider his economy rate, unlike someone like Agarkar

I was considering  the total package for bowlers, average,  economy and wickets per match being the factors.     Bhuvi does not score on the economy front  2015 onward and his average was never good.

Umesh is not ideal for ODIs but neither is Bhuvi.    We need new seamers.

At least historically when Bhuvi was picked more consistently in the team, he has shown an ability to be economical and also wicket taking. When has Umesh shown an ability to be economical?

Even in the IPL Bhuvi has an average of 23 and an economy rate of 7, while Umesh averages 31 with an economy rate of 8.4.
