Kohli's top innings on difficult conditions (bowler friendly conditions+bowlers exploiting those conditons)

Recommended Posts

This series had some low scoring matches with slow tracks or bowling friendly tracks which is uncommon in India for ODIs. Remember England series were we had 300+ everytime.

Kohli is outperformed by likes of Rahane and 5-6 other batsmen. Probably next series on flat pitches will see him at top again.

Yes, that was great inning, but overall the trend is same. Once the conditions are difficult, others start outperforming him. Be it SA test series, Australia home series, tour to England. WI series in 2011.

He remains way too ahead of ahead of other on roads - Eng series at home, Aus tour, tons of bilateral ODIs. No one comes even close.

Only the first 2 ODIs posed any difficulty for our batters.

We scored 294 in less than 48 overs to win the 3rd ODI .... scored 313 in the 4th ODI .... and won the 5th ODI scoring 243 for 3 in less than 43 overs .... none of our batters looked in any trouble in these 3 matches.

That 2nd odi also pitch played ok for first 35 overs.  Even rahane scored a nice little fifty and got run out only.

once again your bias against kohli is making you overlook the facts:

1st odi: he got out to a superb catch, 2 inches more it would have been a boundary,**** happens

2nd odi : he played the best knock in the game

3rd odi: absolute patta, we were chasing 30-40 runs below par thanks to our bowling and virat looked in prime touch , one cover      drive still comes to mind of cummins ,but got out to a soft dismissal

4th odi : ok this was a failure,he should have chased down the score that day

5th odi : okayish innings ,tried finishing the game early, got out in the process, another soft dismissal

so, it looks like just one failure in the 4th game and every human being is allowed one odd failure. And also it is clear, the returns had nothing to do with the pitches, because most of the pitches were very good to bat

Rahane opened and opening is the best spot on such pitches, the reason all openers did well Rahane, Rohit, Warner, Finch and middle order from both teams except Pandya struggled.

Kohli  121 off 125 balls vs NZ   .... Next highest score in his team 37

Difficult batting conditions .... ball swung early on ...  ball was stopping and coming from the 11th over onward

It was very hot and humid

Team was struggling at 71 for 3

More than anything it was the ball stopping on which made stroke making difficult. Top inning.

NZ bowled brilliantly. Conditions weren't very difficult. Won't say it was veRy good when India was batting but only 20% difficult. Obviously a batsman of  kohli stature won't find it difficult. But to count it as an innings under difficult conditions is a stretch.

Tests or ODIs?

In ODIs, there aren't many challenging conditions these days. Pitches in England are just as flat as those in India, albeit with less turn. Australia is only slightly better for bowlers but can still be very flat. NZ is slightly better in providing a bat/ball contest but the quality of their players isn't that good. It would be very interesting to see him on the bigger grounds of Dubai or Abu Dhabi, against the Pak line up on pitches that do not produce many 280+ scores. So, in ODIs, we have to look at his performances in world tournaments and he hasn't done very well in tournament KO games. Could he not handle the pressure?

As for tests, he looked like a joke in England, where there is genuine swing, seam and pace on offer for bowlers. In the Windies, where the pitch can stick and not always produce the best batting tracks, he again looked out of sorts.  In NZ his numbers are bolstered by a big not out but other than that, he batted just ok. Although the century did help his team draw the match but was that simply an anomaly? We'll find out when he tours again.

blah blah blah yeah virat is average, view point from garampaani

i basically laugh at this arguments against kohli the odi batsman,he is a freak.in so far as playing ko games is concerned i know there is no outstanding innings so far in odis but there are in t20s and in due course it will happen in odis as well

coming to last match, good innings ,wont say anything great about it but he made a mistake at toss, you dont give opposition a chance to chase at wankhede
