Is Saha good enough as a keeper to be in XI despite very poor batting?

Because all our batsmen, apart from Rahul,  have failed in the 3 innings Saha has failed in.   The pitches were really difficult to bat on for anybody at the times Saha batted.

So it shows his ability in tough conditions right? Why cherry pick?

If someone asks you Kohli's or Pujara's stats from last 12 months would you exclude this series?

You can always :cantstop:

One thing I do agree is Saha is a far superior test batsman than Rohit.

Saha averages 44 in SriLanka , Rohit averages 33.

Saha averages 51 in West Indies , Rohit a staggering 25.

And Rohit is a specialist batsman :cantstop:

Let's hope you never ever ask for Rohit back into the test team ever again.

:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Now he will tell you how Rohit contributes with the ball with an action like Swann.

This is a non-question.

The answer is YES, DECISIVELY SO.

On pitches like these, where 1 drop costs us the match (e.g.: smith drop in 1st test), we need the wicket-keeper who is the better keeper. Period. Even if the difference is small (which it isn't). Because we are not comparing ' do we go with Ian healy and his 27 batting average or do we go with an inferior keeper but vastly superior batsman like Kumar Sangakkara), we are comparing two batsmen who both average in the high 20s/low 30s.
On these kind of pitches, the extra 5-10 runs the 'better batsmen of the two' would make, is completely negated by the 1 extra drop.

Not to mention, given that we have the worst slip & close catching team EVER ( i seriously cant think of an Indian team since the 1970s that was a worse catching team), having the better keeper  is extra important.

We are not considering him as a specialist batsman like Kohli or Pujara.

We are trying to find out whether he is passable as a batsman, given his above-average keeping.

Also, as Bangladesh has good spinners, who are the more  relevant bowlers for judging our batsmen playing in India.... I would include the Bangladesh test while judging a wicket-keeper's batting ability  atleast.

Yes and to find that out we need to see his performance against top teams rather than minnows. The pitch in Hyderabad was really flat too.

Did you look at Saha vs MSD overseas stats?-Saha is slightly ahead but then doesn't mean much-Agreed

MSD batting in SC conditions is a bonus- agreed again. but in SC our top order is good enough to out bat teams 8/10 times and Ashwin,Jadeja and Saha are decent enough to contribute

Also MSD batted with 6 top prder bats...Saha has been playing with 5 bats....

so different pressure altogether.

Keeping Saha is better...To spin MSD is slightly ahead agreed again but to pace Saha is miles ahead.

This is not a MSD vs Saha thread and I don't want this to go in that direction which I think you are steering it in.

But the point is Saha is terrific with the glove work and for small pleasure of life if we carried other keepers in the past, worth persisting with Saha.

Add to that MSD batted with Sachin/Dravid/Laxman/Sehwag/Gambir. Then with Kohli added to it. I dont think he felt pressure other than overseas games when the lineup failed. It was just about how he can dominate in SC.
