Forever Indian Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 (edited) Ishant and Umesh both seem to have improved their accuracy a lot and it is reaping them and India good rewards. Ishant was always an accurate bowler but would usually bowl brainlessly short of length in sixth stump line which batsmen would mostly leave or the swing would miss the bat. In last 2 years he has improved on that, and in India has started to bowl a lot at the stumps. Umesh was a spraygun until a year back and would bowl a lot on the batsman's pads which would easily be put away for boundaries. He has also developed accuracy now and is bowling a lot on offstump line instead of the legstump line he used to bowl before. One other thing that both need to learn is to use the short ball judiciously now and then to push the batsmen on backfoot. This is especially important when bowling overseas. Right now they go either on a short ball barrage or never use it at all. If they continue developing this way then we will have 4 really potent bowlers for our next overseas assignment - Shami, Umesh, Ishant, Bhuvi. express bowling Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 (edited) We also saw Shami bowling with improved accuracy after returning from injury 9 months back. Now we see Umesh doing it in the last 8 tests or so and Ishant giving good company. We now have 3 fast bowlers who are combining accuracy with pace and hitting the deck hard. Our pace bowling has become more objective too, with improved match and conditions awareness. Shami is our only pacer who is using the bouncer properly. Very regularly used ( 1 or 2 per over ) , to push the batsmen on the back-foot but rarely overdoing it. Umesh and Ishant need to learn this aspect from him. I also want Aaron to train under Kumble-Kohli-Bangar. He has been bowling accurately ( low ER ) on the last A tour and the ongoing VH Trophy. Mosher Posted March 7, 2017 Posted March 7, 2017 Agree. Good use of bouncer is missing. It has to be a surprise delivery. Umesh and Ishant have been guilty of not bowling it at all or over doing it. This is where Shami is ahead of the other bowlers. But all these 4 bowlers are gelling together as a good fast bowling unit. The real test will be the tours abroad on pitches which are conducive to fast bowling where they will have to take a leading role in picking wickets rather than a supporting role which they are doing at home. express bowling, Bystander and Forever Indian 3

It seems Aaron is off the radar for tests for some reason, maybe due to his frequent injuries. I would like to see him in ODIs specifically as he is a wicket taker in that format.

Umesh bowled that ball cross seamed and so I suppose it missed the seam fully and the ball became a grubber. Umesh didn't pick many wickets against England but he bowled really really well. Lot of dropped catches and crucial breakthroughs. It could have been very easy to ignore his contribution in the post match presentations but Kohli mentioned his name so many times in India England series. Any fast bowler would be happy to hear that. Kohli appreciates his bowlers and that's why Umesh looks a magical bowler. Good to see our quicks using their brains and improving their skills. We could have used this delivery a bit more frequently though. Mosher 1
