Nikhil_cric
Ajinkya Rahane is probably our best batsman against pace and movement but is woefully inadequate against spin and is easily the worst player of spin in this batting lineup. Why are we playing him at 6 then? A number 6 should be able to counter attack and score runs and cannot be someone who is vulnerable against half decent spin. Our top 3 , on the other hand , are not particularly great against quality swing/seam bowling but are very good against the turning ball. Is it time to bat Rahane either as an opener or at 3 ? CG
If Rahane and Pujara Swap Places it would be best for both of them. raki05, Switchblade, ThePhenomenal1 and 1 other 2 1 1 Link to comment
Ankit_sharma03
I have said before in overseas ill make rahane bat at 3 instead of struggling pujara.....even at home coz he comes at 5 when spinners are on (but at home pujara has been bradman) UrmiSinhaRay and Switchblade 1 1 Link to comment
SK_IH
Rahane has been tried at no.3 before ,he was not a success and Rahane is not our best batsman against pace and movement ,that would be Kohli He is very overrated Link to comment

Clarke
Does he find it suitable at 3 ? If he doesn't, there's that saying about If it ain't broke ... Besides, he's #5. Edited July 19, 2018 by Clarke Link to comment

Without Hardik, we will be down to 4 genuine number 11 batsmen - You'd see lot of scenarios like 250/5 to 265 all out. Link to comment

And we suddenly want him to play as a specialist batsman? Play one of Karthik/Pant, probably DK to start off,. Get Vijay to open with Dhawan with Rahul at 3 and Rahane at 5 and DK at 6. bowl_out
Was Vijay Shankar any good in the A matches recently? Ideally the fifth bowler should be a strong bat who can bowl a few overs while the quicks get a breather.. Vijay Shankar could fill in that role if his batting is worth something.. Yes, he sucked against Mustafizur in the T20 final.. but I wouldn’t judge him by 1 match that too in a different format. Link to comment
Moochad
did not Ajinkya used to play in the middle order, 3-4 for Mumbai. He can probably move up the order then and have Pujara go down or even up into opener an interesting lineup could be Vijay Pujara Rahane Kohli Rahul Switchblade 1 Link to comment

That's not a bad lineup. Pujara should just be charged with blunting the new ball then. He had a terrible county season so we can't expect him to score much. Moochad 1 Link to comment
vishalvirsingh
THE eleven I want is below and if Vijay PLays then Hardik should be dropped and KL rahul Played and we go with 4 bowlers only.. all 4 bowlers are rubbish batsman but great bowlers so we can pack with 7 batsman including kartik and even drop hardik. kl rahul dhawan Pujara virat rahane karthik hardik kuldeep shammi ishant Umesh UrmiSinhaRay 1 Link to comment

Pujara only Plays Tests , i think he would be ready to face any kind of swing and tough conditions...unless he gets into the NO RUNS Mode when he and VJ just stick to wickets but do not score anything , i expect him to blunt the New Ball and then manage to Score runs or at least make it easy for Virat to Score big as Pujara will defend the Ball well...I am sure he would have got his form back by now ...
