Viv Richards: I'd pick Sachin over Lara

It has Bradman (like playing 2 batsmen) and Sobers (avg 58) .... Supported by Gavaskar, Lara and Richards, who can hit big 100s ....  Gilly .... Hadlee to Marshall are all decent ARs :dontknow:

In an all time XI (that will be presumably up against other extremely strong sides), Hadlee is too high at 7 no matter how good the top 5 are. Plus one of your 5 ATG bowlers would get up under-bowled more often than not. With no restrictions on the number of overs a bowler can bowl, a 6th batsman is always more handy than a 5th bowler in Tests IMO. Sobers can anyway fill in as the 5th bowler.

You're the one to talk after picking Dhoni ahead of Gilly in an All Time Ind/Aus XI :hahaha:.

That would be an option too depending up on conditions

Not necessarily. Hadlee gives you everything that McGrath does with the ball + some runs with the bat.

Actually there is a superior McGrath option available too - Ambrose. He did everything McGrath did, pretty much exactly, with even more accuracy. Don't think i've ever seen a stingier pacer than Ambrose in either the short or the long format of the game. One thing that definitely tilts me towards Ambrose over McGrath, is what they did when they lost their temper. McGrath went ape$hit (like on Sarwan), frothing on the mouth like a rabid dog. Ambrose just stood there, walked over slowly towards you (like he did with Dean Jones or David Boone, cant remember who), towered over you from like 5 feet away and literally gave a minute long death-stare.

His motto 'Curtley talk to no man' ( and i dont think he actually EVER gave an interview during his playing career) would drive all these entitled media-men crazy. Yet, right after he retired, he turned into a fun-loving, dreadie who plays in a band. Love that guy.

Tendu Tendu..

Kohli has left him in his dust. So all Tendu left to do is play Mumbai politics with in Indian Cricket.

Riight. The guy who's faced less than a third as many great bowlers, over a career thats less than half as long so far, having made around 40% as many runs....at around the same average in an era where its empirically easier to score runs, has left him in the dust.....

Okay, well then Prithvi Shaw has left Kohli in the dust - atleast his average is way way higher than Kohli's than Kohli's is to Tendu.

All things combined,  not at all a surprise most would place Sachin above Lara .But on occasions  when all factors suited him,Lara was  more dominant  than Sachin

yeah.
The entire reason we have this debate is because in their primes, Tendu was a garantee for scoring a century every 3-4 tests without fail, regardless of pitch and opposition, plus averaging 40-50 practically every series without fail, while Lara was the guy who'd give you 0,5,5,10,7, 275*, 4 kinda scores against the best of the best on the hardest of pitches.  From a long term, team perspective, Tendulkar was clearly a superior bat. But if we were to watch 1 innings of cricket and thats it, Lara tops every single batsman i've ever seen.
