Template to beat India in the World Cup.

Recommended Posts

With so many weak points in this Indian lineup, I thought to myself what is the easiest way to beat India?

1) Make India bat first. We seem to struggle to get a total that is well above par these days.

2) Get Dhoni and Rayudu to the crease as early as possible, but let Rohit bat for the first 10-15 overs.

3) In an Indian run chase, get Kohli out as soon as possible. Again get Dhoni and Rayudu in and stop the sinlges, the RRR will escalate so far its unattainable. Bowl straight at the stumps to these two guys, they wont take risks.

4) Keep Dhoni on strike as much as possible. So when he is at the crease, forget about the boundaries. Stop singles and twos.

5) Any score of 300+ and getting Kohli out early and you have WON THE GAME. India cannot chase huge totals anymore outside Asia.

6) If batting first against India aim for a par score. India's batsmen will ensure the run rate required will end up making the score feel like chasing 400.

Your #4 is now omniscient to all opposition teams.

Also batting first we cannot put a mammoth score on the board anymore. At-least I don't see it happening in overseas conditions. Don't think India has posted a 350+ score unless Rohit has gone berserk in India. We have no power hitters.

Get 2 of the top 3 out early, and the middle order is unproven/lacks power. We will almost never post a good score/chase a high score if 2 of the 3 get out early.

There was a stat during the CT, from memory, that if Kohli comes in to bat during the PP, then his average is significantly worse than if he comes in to bat after the PP is over. The number was something obscene like 40s vs 70+.

Our bowling, assuming Shami plays with Bumrah and the spin twins would only be weak during Shami's 3-4 death overs. Pandya can give the team some passable overs and Jadhav has a good record as a bowler through this many matches. Shankar, I haven't seen enough of him to say if he is good.

India is way too strong and if right 11 play India is invinciple right now. England is a threat because of home conditions but this cup is India's to lose.

Absolute bullsh1t.

India cant chase 350+ with this current team, hell any score above par will push them even.

Kohli has not played a masterclass knock in a long while now.

We have too many players that are a liability. Rohit, Dhawan, Rayudu, Dhoni, thats 4/11 players.

These 4 are the best bats out there. I dont know what the issue is.

Our team usually does well in bilaterals where you face the same team over a bunch of games. Our batsmen can get a few good scores on many of the surfaces .... Here the challenge is to face a new opponent in every game in the group stages, where KO pressure is also relatively less

We won Asia cup. We reached two CT finals in a row. Reached world cup semis lost to home team who were eventual winners. Even in the world T20 last time we reached semis, before that reached final.  Infact facing one opponent once makes the job easier for us.  That is where Kuldeep's presence will give us an edge.

  • In 2013, we had a relatively young team and were playing well. In fact many thought we would win :thumb:
  • In Asia Cup, we played relatively weak teams. Still struggled vs HK, BD and AFG
  • In 2017, messed up vs SL. In KOs, we can be good. But played BD in SFs and were smashed by Pak in F. Mainly played Asian Teams expect SA, which did not play well

This time we have more group games and would be playing vs every team including those that do well in such conditions. So there is a challenge

So template to beat india

1. If batting first score 350, get 2 early wicket

2. If bowling first get 3 early wicket and put pressure on middle order so that they settle for below par

With above template you can beat any team.

In the ODI history 111 times teams have scored 350 plus. 105 out of 111 the team that scored 350 plus won.  only 6 times 350 plus totals were overhauled out of which India did it thrice. SA twice. ENgland once. Guess what is common in India's win. Kohli scored century in each of the three 350 plus wins. Rohit didn't play the 2nd one. In other two matches he made 141* and 79.  Dhawan made 95,1,100. Jadhav made 120* in the 2nd one. There are two ways you can chase. Either all 3 at the top clicking or someone playing a mind blowing innings in the middle. Bottomline is if any team that is likely to overhaul a 350 plus total that will be India. But in a world cup scenario it is 10 times harder even for us.
