India's obsession with spin

I think this game should show the importance of wrist spinners over 'containing' finger spinners.  I'm hoping VK will learn from this and Chahal will start getting regular games.   I remember posting about a year ago, that I want Hardik Pandya and Yuz Chahal to each have played a couple of years of ODIs before WC 2019.   Pandya's well on his way, but Chahal is a bit behind.

In modern odis with 2 new balls ,field restrictions there is hardly anything for finger spinners during middle overs. If we have to pay spinners we need to go for wrist spinner like kuldeep yadav

This has been going on for decades now. Blindly choose spinners. Why? Because Indians historically never had fast bowlers, so lets go defensive and play spinners!

This attitude has held back India to reach the heights they could have. Did not expect this from Kohli. Disappointed and disillusioned!

Yeah, a wrist spinner(Kuldeep or Chahal) and a seamer all rounder(Hardik) and 3 proper seamers(Bhuvi, Bumrah, Shami) would be the ideal combo on pitches which are more flat and hard like in SA, Aus, Eng or NZ. They have played so many ODIs in these conditions over the past 2 years but havent learnt from this.

Extremely disappointed. Back then we never had the quicks to cause issues for batsmen. Now we have them and still don't select them. I'm disillusioned as well. All of Kohlis so called aggression looks like fake machismo when he ends up making such defensive selections. Watch us get smashed when we tour SA

Well Kohli does tend to rate Ashwin and Jadeja much higher than anyone else.   He also tends to repeat the same team because of thw inning combination -  his utter disregard of the opposition and the pitch is why we got both of them playing ...utter stupidity

he is a good test bowler ..

but he has been smashed in ODIs quite regularly , jaddu is a better odi bowler than ashwin

Its fine to have spinner as pacers on this track will also go for runs like you can see Bumrah being expensive today. Though the real problem is that we have the wrong spinner and not attacking spinner like Kuldeep or Mishra. A leggie was needed.

Even Chahal would have gotten wicket but given us crucial wickets.

The 2 spinner strategy has cost us a lot of games outside India but we seem to be obsessed with playing them. When we have a seamer all rounder like Hardik, we can afford to play 4 seamers(3 seamers + 1 seamer AR) on tracks like these especially against SC sides. Dumb strategy.

pretty dumb strategy that too playing against subcontinental team..

both srilanka and bangla punished us earleir ( fortunatley jadhav saved us last time vs bangla )

Certianly this isn't a test and this isn't suitable for 2 of them -  you aren't playing NZ or the Aussies to choke them with spin - BD/SL  both showed how well subcontient team plays against spin

Kedar Jadhav was underutilized today....was introduced very late and did well.

In Hindsight yes but he bowls too full and could have gotten whacked too earlier like Ashwin or more. We could have gotten him early had other bowlers played a better role and kept runs in check. But since all were getting canned barring Bhuvi, he would have been freely hit, more than Ashwin.

After last match's performance....a couple of overs to break the partnership around the 25th over was always on.
