It's this that concern me greatly because it speaks of piss poor planning by the powers that be in Indian cricket. True. No matter whether he succeeds or not, he deserves a chance. But it's surprising that they selected him for SA series and not for SL series. Link to comment

That is incorrect. Bumrah has developed the away-going delivery ( both seaming-away and outswing ) in the last 6 months. They showcased this on TV both yesterday and on the SL 17 tour. We saw him move the ball away often enough yesterday. 2. There have been many top pacers in history who did not move the ball both ways. They had one-sided movement and the straighter ball. Sooda
It is piss poor planning, people here have mentioned it countless times that it's unfair to bring him into the test team with him having played no FC matches. Even if he had played SL his line and length would have needed adjusting to SA , this is where a warm up match or two would have been useful Link to comment

He could have been much more effective if he had played a couple of tests vs SL or even a couple of Ranji matches .....and done his conditioning-for-tests training at the NCA during the LOI series. But the people who are questioning his performance, ( that too his debut test innings in which he bowled decent enough ) are forgetting that his replacements would be one of 2 pacers who both average around 36 after 79 and 36 tests respectively. It is not as if Shami or Bhuvi are being made to sit out. Cricketics 1 Link to comment

Cricketics
Bumrah has shown that he can be used on these helpful pitches. Had he played a bit against Sri Lanka in the last series, it would have helped. He looked little rusty but one might like it or not, but I will play Bumrah again in the next test. Bumrah showed signs of improving in the first test. He had some unplayable balls which came in to the batsmen and Saha was collecting the balls far wide on the leg side after it missed the off stump. This showed that he has some weapons to cause South Africa some trouble. He is one of those bowlers who might not be handy much at home but once in a while we should throw him in, and South Africa is the best place. I would like to see him play as he is already now playing and will only bowl better in the 2nd test. Rightarmfast 1 Link to comment

express bowling
Bowled really well in the 2nd innings of his debut test. He is a fast learner and we saw him improve his line and length a lot. He bowled with pace, bounce and movement and mostly bowled on or just outside the off-stump Bowled some real snorters in this match. 4 wickets @ 28 with a SR of only 45, justifies his selection Mosher 1 Link to comment
