Two tier test cricket

West Indies have just rolled over Eng in Eng for the first time in 17 years. Hours later Bangladesh make their own history by beating Australia.

Does this strengthen or weaken the case for two tier test cricket?

I personally thing the Two tires should take place. Teams like AFG and IRE will face the same consequence as BD did for 10 years. Whats the point off loosing matches after matches without even putting up a decent fight?

Some are saying this discredits the two tier concept since the likes of WI and BA can in fact mix it with the big names. I say we need a two tier system. These losses should and must hurt financially.

No, one tier system is ok. Fads like 2 tier tests, pink ball tests, 4 day tests must end. Don't want to pollute the greatest game on Planet Earth, these fads will serve better purpose in JAMODIs and T20 circus matches.

India have just pulverised SL 3-0 in their own backyard. But where is the context? Nobody care any longer and kids growing up certainly won't. In today's world there has to be immediate financial implications of losing.

I am in favor of Two tier system myself but two things to consider. Will England and Australia still play Ashes if either of the team falls to second tier.

Second one is sanctity of stats.

You would somehow need to make room for the Ashes - agreed either within the league or outside of it. There are some interesting ideas floating around on how to do it.

In my opinion if England or Australia are in tier 2 then Ashes cannot happen. If they are okay with it then bring on Tier system.Super six system got thrown out once India was knocked out of world cup.

All those arguing for two tier system - would you have been okay if India would have been slotted as a second tier team through most of our Test history? Its only in the last 15 years that we have been a top tier team. And how would we have made it as a top tier team if we were only playing other minnows?

So stop this two-tier non sense and being so arrogant about whitewashing Lanka and all. We have also got clobbered multiple times in the past. Just because now we are a top tier Test team doesn't mean we start considering that no matches should be played with weaker teams. In fact, this is the time to notch up those elusive away wins and make our overall win-loss ratio better.

Shakib Al Hassan reportedly taking 6 months off test cricket to prolong his test career. Why slog your guts out in a game with no purpose or meaning even if it is against the top sides. Test cricket is on life support.

EDIT 'international' career

Quit treating Ashes as if it is gods gift to earth. Two mediocre teams playing old mans format. It has been a decade since I kept up with that crap.

Lol already there is just 8 or 9 teams playing and why would you want 2 tiers in it or have 8 or 9 tiers with each tier playing other tiers to advace to relegate to next tiers...wait we already have that..its called ranking.

I personally think this old man format needs to die its natural death. If and only if India plays the minimum required tests that would accelerate the process.

This unfortunately is a sad fact.
