Ishant- Has he become mature?

I have always maintained this...Ishu is not good when he is considered a strike bowler but if he has good support he is as good as it gets....he can produce magical deliveries and batsmen will not look to play him off like they usually do and he ends up looking “unlucky”....he is lot more potent when there is a good support system.

How come Ishant is bowling at higher speeds, the same Ishant was bowling in low 130s against SA in 2015.Hotstar has posted highlights of series against SA.

 

These guys are not going full tilt all the time then, so it is better we have different fast bowlers for different teams.As soon as Ishant is kicked out of the team he discovers his lost speed?

Hopefully, if he can't perform it in SA this time around, then he shouldn't be selected ever.

Partially true but in the end it all boils down to our ability to take 20 wickets. And maintaining the fitness till the last ball of the series. Bhuvi in England 2014 was exhausted by the 3rd test and his performance dipped.

EB this is a great post, please post in speed and performance thread for safe keeping.  Ishant has turned the corner around after the lows in 2014. this is excellent pace from him for 3 years now.

Vilander .... Indian fast bowlers have been bowling consistently quick in the last two and a half years, especially in test matches.

 

I plan to post all these speeds, match by match, for Shami, Umesh, Ishant and Aaron ..... to showcase this point.... as their supreme efforts are sometimes going unnoticed

Ishant during 2011 Aus tour bowled exceptionally well and more than in one spell was even bowling 154kph. I remember aus commies saying that this was the unluckiest bowling they've ever seen (i.e. Beat the bat on many occasions br failed to find the edge). Shami and bhuvi being spearheads should help take the pressure off him

Wow.  Surprising to see Ticsy not support a Delhi boy.  

 

My take on Ishant is that he's a quality 3rd seamer, who consistently did poorly when thrust into the lead role.  And he has gotten slightly better with time.   

 

He's never going to be lead dawg good though.  But if Shami and Bhuvi are bowling at anywhere near their best, he doesn't need to.   

If Yadav doesn't find his groove quickly, it will be interesting to see who VK prefers for the workhorse 3rd pacer role.

Shami Bhuvi and Ishant it is then....or maybe play Yadav and Bhuvi as the allrounder as I don’t think Bhuvi will do worse than Pandya with the bat in South Africa.

I expect the Saffers to go out of their way and make the outfields as lush and thick as possible, to nullify reverse swing.  I think the tracks are going to be super bouncy, but not green.   Just like Pune leveled the playing field for our spinners and Aussies, green tracks give our bowlers the best chance to be effective.   On a bouncy track, if Yadav is inconsistent like he was against SL, he will leak too many runs.  But given his tendency for fuller lengths, he may also be more of a wicket-taking threat than Ishant - if he gets it right.

If ishant is in form , ishant shud play over umesh.....and ishant has done well whenever there is help in the wkt

Umesh.........do watever the guy will be inconsistent and with kookabura i doubt he ll get much of reverse swing which pretty much reduces one point from umesh. Umesh can produce one lethal spell but can be wayward in many and thats were batsman like AMla, abdv, faf can make a merry on it

 

M keenly looking for third test incase of ishant as to see can he maintain his consistency ..........if he does well he shud be ahead of umesh. Specially if that seam is landing straight and thats what makes ishant or any bowler dangerous . 

 

Yes a lot wud depend on choices of virat coz he has the arsenal and when a captain has that it all comes down to his choice. Even though we cud have added a few more option by trying shankar n kuldeep regulalry in this series but we choose not to. 

 

Spinners- shud be 1.....on SA pitches with kookabura we shud only play one spinner . 

 

Another choice that wud hold the key is opening batsman - any one smart will pick KL and Vijay but kohli is known to fall for flair more....

And last the temptation of playing his fav child rohit sharma
