I don't know if there's really that much to separate Ash and Pandya on the batting front.   Pandya has promise, but has a looser technique than Ashwin.   You can't really count on Pandya as a #6 bat with his bowling as a bonus.  If that were the case, then you'd be right - but Pandya as a batsman in tests is still a bit of a questionmark.

Not the case, his away numbers over the last couple of years are quite respectable.

in last 2-3 years, he has done better overseas, poor at home. he had 10-12 wickets in last 10 home tests before 5 at Nagpur.

maybe false dawn . But bowling high 80s and good areas . What more want ?

 

defo would pick him over yadav at moment 

 

also balance of attack . Bk and shami skidding bowlers who pitch it up more . Good balance to have taller bowler who bowls more back of length ( pooor mans morkel)

Nice to see every one suddenly have turned Ishant fans , even though hes bowling high pace for years and has had his moments all through his career .

He is bowling in good areas at good pace in this series.

I have seen him bowling as well and better many times in last 10 years . Consistency ? in 2 innings you all know hes become consistent ?

How did he bowl today? Did he bowl that defensive wide offsump line or got closer to the offstump? Bro I hope he doesn't turn into unlucky Ishant once he lands in SA

Not sure if he is bowling in good areas. Anyway we don't need him to just bowl in good areas. He needs to pick wickets which he can't since SA batsmen are world class and not impatient like SL.

Bro, after his first over, Ishant bowled in really good areas with intensity and pace, and made the batters play.

 

1 wicket and 2 dropped catches as a result

Yadav has been a dissappointment since the last test against Aus. He's been low on speeds and gives away too many runs and cant seem to pick wickets either. Ishant has improved at least economically and Kohli and management will prefer Ishant to hold up one end and Shami/Bhuvi can attack at the other end. I'm a huge fan of yadav as well as it seems like he was really coming into his own in the Aus series but don't know what has happened since then. Maybe he's injured. Maybe he's satisfied with what he has done. I wish he would show more emotions on the field and maybe that would improve his bowling but he has been disappointing recently.

I accept Yadav may have dipped though i haven't been watching. My point is he has shown he can produce. Ishant has a long track record of not producing. 2018 is going to make or break some careers. It's going to be a long away season and picking Ishant ahead of Yadav is short sighted.
