That is why I am so eagerly waiting for the Eng series. We have endured lot of humiliation there in the previous 2 tours, that 2011 one hurts me to this date. Unless BCCI *s up the scheduling by arranging a tour after IPL next year we have enough time to prepare besides playing the limited overs matches first and playing the tests only in Aug-Sep by which time our spinners will join the party. I fully expect a thrashing in SA because of some flaws which should hopefully be corrected before the England tour. 5 tests in England is awesome and if we win a 5 test series there it will be truly historic.

You are very hopeful.

It is BCCI's fault and not SA's. They could easily have send test squad a weeks early and have more warmup as most front-line test players aren't playing ODIs.

Well the BCCI was playing hardball with CSA, and didn't want to give them the boxing day test - hard for them to schedule ODIs or warm-ups if they are using the excuse that SL tour is on till 24th December.

Given the history and bad blood between CSA and BCCI, I understand the need for payback, but in this case, its our chances that are taking a hit as collateral damage.

You should join the hope brigade.   These 3 away tours are going to well contested at a minimum by our Indian team.  Call me crazy, but I feel like we are winning at least 2 out of these 3 series!

Strength to strength, one should take into account that Indian bowlers start their inning at 100-0 going by the rate Kohli and co are dropping catches at slips giving multiple lifelines to opposition batsmen.

Let's hope they got a bunch of drops out of their system against SL, and will be relatively error free in the next couple of tests.  Law of averages! :p:

This is the scariest bowling attack India will ever have faced in SA, I don't think india has any chance if this attack is playing. This might be SA's strongest bowling attack ever.

How is India going to compete with this team.Recently all other teams have faced weakened version SA, now this full strength team looks mighty powerful.

RIP if Dhawan is going to open against this lineup.

Dhawan should not be playing, Philander will eat him alive.

This proteas attack if everyone is firing on cylinders is on par with 1980 WI bowling except Philander is slow. How the heck are former Indian players saying India has a good chance, they have no chance if this team is playing.

Vijay needs to fire in this series, onus lies on both him and Che to blunt the new ball. More than runs these 2 need to grind, grind, grind else we are screwed. If they fail we have to be prepared for many sub 100 scores.

It does not matter, they just have too many weapons.India has better chance of beating England or Australia but not this team.Their batting looks light but bowling is mighty impressive.

Morkel is a big question mark at this point, may not be fit - at least for the 1st test.   Fat Philander is a 50-50 bet to play all 3 tests against India - he rarely plays more than 2-3 tests in a row.  Steyn is a bonafide ATG, but even ATGs get old, and coming back from a broken shoulder bone is no joke at his age.   Rabada is young, and quick, but he has never had to be lead dawg for the attack, and that will be interesting to see how he handles that.  Especially if SA don't have Morne keeping the pressure on at the other end.

Let's not be all doom and gloom.  SA have very good pace bowlers in their squad, and it will be a challenge.  But our team is no pushover either.

That is why I said if they are all fit and raring to go India has no chance.I really hope India wins but I don't see how they can.England were very lucky last time they got to face proteas without Steyn and Vernon and there was lot of turmoil in their side.

S van Zyl

HM Amla

AB de Villiers (c)

F du Plessis

T Bavuma

DJ Vilas †

CH Morris

K Rabada

GC Viljoen

M Morkel

Compare this side to the nightmare India is going to face.AB is fresh and raring to go eager to prove a point, Amla is eager to discover his mojo.

We can hope for the best but I don't see how India can beat that team.

Morkel, Philander, Morris, and even Faf du Plessis are all either injured or recovering.  Getting AB into the side means that they have to drop Bavuma, play 4 bowlers, or drop an opener.   SA have their share of turmoil, disruption and injury issues.  They are good, but let's not assume best case scenario for them, across the board.

And its not like we are sending a team of Devang Gandhi, Ajay Jadeja, Hrishikesh Kanitkar, Dodda Ganesh out there.   Our boys can ball, and brawl, with the best of them.

Phuck the negativity on this *en forum already, guys are too afraid to let their optimism blossom, because they don't want to get their hopes up and get disappointed.  BS.   Nobody's claiming we are guaranteed to "smash them" as moroniac are attempting to claim with false strawman arguments.

But this is shaping up to be a competitive, hotly contested series, with our team having as good a chance as SA to win.   Get on the bandwagon banjo - We are going big game hunting in South Africa, no guns necessary.

I am not being negative at all.I am just comparing sides.Dhawan can twirl his mustache all he wants he won't last long there.I wish they played boxing day test so that they could catch them off guard.

Bavuma not playing is blessing in disguise for them.

I wouldn't be so sure.  Karma tends to be a bitch.

Cricket South Africa, on Monday, announced that the two-day warm-up game India were scheduled to play in South Africa has been cancelled. India will instead conduct training sessions on those days. This would mean that India will head into the three-match Test series, to start on January 5 2018 in Cape Town, without a practice match in South Africa.

the key is the sa batting. if we get green tops, we may win a test on a lottery (like oz and o'keeffe in pune). however, i expect ind to lose in sa

Good one.

never expected these type of pitches where no SA bat scored a 100 in the series. This is the biggest real i always say cricket is highly condition based sport and it is really difficult to predict until you actually know what kind of conditions and pitches you are going to get.
