SecondSlip Posted December 5, 2017 Posted December 5, 2017 Team India needs to play 4 front line fast bowlers similar to England in the ongoing ashes if we want to win in South Africa. Neither Ashwin or Pandya are going to be wicket taking options in South Africa. We wont pick 20 wickets with both of them in the team. If only we had a batting allrounder that can bowl spin, someone like JP Duminy or Roston Chase. Then we could have easily played 4 fast bowling options in the XI. England has this luxury with Moeen Ali, he allows them to play 4 Specialist pace bowlers like they are in the current ashes. If Team India follows the England model, then I believe that we will have a greater chance of winning our first ever test series in South Africa
PSB_Zone Posted December 5, 2017 Posted December 5, 2017 No because south africans are not gud against spinners, even if the condition is not suiting.. Khota 1

Trichromatic Posted December 5, 2017 Posted December 5, 2017 4 pacers only if Pandya plays, otherwise no.
zen Posted December 5, 2017 Posted December 5, 2017 Ind needs spinners such as Kuldeep in overseas conditions to make a relatively bigger impact with the old ball. If the conditions allow, play 4 quicks Mosher and express bowling 2
Gollum Posted December 5, 2017 Posted December 5, 2017 LOL no they aren't really that good. Play Jadeja in stead of one of them, at least he can tie one end up. Ashwin should be our sole spinner in Eng and Kuldeep in Aus.
Jodonjo Posted December 5, 2017 Posted December 5, 2017 Our batting will suffer.....imagine the length of the tail!!!!!!! Good idea but wont happen for years....
bhakum20 Posted December 5, 2017 Posted December 5, 2017 We have never had a fitter and faster unit than this capable of picking up 20 wickets. IMHO batsmen should back themselves and Kohli should go for the kill by playing 4 pacers. I know it could be suicidal but I don’t see the point in playing safe this time
vishalvirsingh Posted December 7, 2017 Posted December 7, 2017 i wud go with 3 pacers ashwin and hardik in first test and then see how ashwin and pandya perform if they fail big time then i may want to change other wise 3 pacers ash n pandya. my 3 pacers could be shammi bumrah ishant and if the conditions are swing friendly then bhuvi replaces ishant..my first two pacers are bumrah and shammi and third pacer is ishant but if conditions favour swing then bhuvi plays. if umesh is bowling at his best then he can also replace ishant but only if he is in full rhythm.
sandeep Posted December 7, 2017 Posted December 7, 2017 3 pacers + Jadeja/Ash + Bumrah/Umesh/Pandya - that is the best attack for India from a bowling perspective. Vijay Rahul Pujara Kohli Rahane Pandya Saha Jadeja Bhuvi Shami Bumrah. Would love to see how this XI on T1-D1. But I don't think that is happening. I simply don't see VK being bold enough to bump Bumrah ahead of both Ishant and Umesh. He has consistently put a lot of value on seniority in selection.
Trichromatic Posted December 7, 2017 Posted December 7, 2017 Your 4th pacer will always be the guy who can pick 1 wicket on average at best in an inning. If that's the role, then that should be the job of your best spinner and not the pacer. sandeep 1

You can count on him to give you a big chunk of tight economical overs, and pick up a few wickets, maybe more on a good day. Ashwin, as good as he is, has also benefited from Jaddu's control at the other end.
bowl_out Posted December 7, 2017 Posted December 7, 2017 They are likely to go with 6 batsmen for the first Test, given Rahane's poor form and have a conservative start.. Both Rahane and Rohit will be in the XI. So, the bowlers will be Shami, Bhuvi, Umesh/Ishant, Jadeja..

Picking Tailunt is clearly a defensive move, playing Pandya or 2 spinners is more 'positive'. Nothing wrong with defensive if the situation calls for it though.

Yeah, that’s why I said the starting XI is more likely to be conservative, particularly given that Rahane is out of form.

Rightarmfast Posted December 8, 2017 Posted December 8, 2017 If we had a left arm fast bowler, it would make sense to play 4 pacers. Since, that isn't the case, I don't think it makes sense to play 4 pacers. They don't necessarily provide variety, except for Bhuvi who can swing prodigiously. I wouldn't play Hardik Pandya though as an allrounder. In south african conditions, I doubt his batting would click, and he is not going to create any waves with his bowling.
