This is from homeland security. Not Trump's Tweet. Even though companies will show resistance and bill won't pass lot of small companies will be hesitating to hire H1B people until we know about this one way or the other. They will be affected. There will be uncertainty hanging over their head.

Eventually I feel it will happen at some point . Looking at where the tech industry is heading , they may not need that many immigrants to fill in jobs like in the past , 10-15 years it was probably unthinkable and even if they thought a lot of it big MNC's would have lobbied against it , may not be such a unpopular decision now ..so they can pull this off .

There are really good areas in parts of India to settle than to linger in green card limbo while someone from Syria or even Pakistan get citizenship faster Indians get green card. There is quota system to balance the immigration poll with Bharat having billion people mean your quota is completed faster than less populated countries.

Don’t understand the quota for high skilled. If a low skilled person from another country gets faster green card than the high skilled person India that’s discrimination. Why is there no quota for h1b ?

Why should the average american care about immigrants? If anything, they should want less immigration, so it makes them feel like they have a better chance of getting hired in the profession of their choice. They should 'make hell' for Indian immigrants. Its not your country, unki marzi. All tech companies will give a damn about India. JObless, uneducated moronic base of republican party may not care. US is where it is because of immigrants. 100 years back Indian currency had better value than US currency. Then they started taking the best brains all over the world. Even now MS accounts for 45% of INdians. CEO of MS Indian. CEO of Google INdian. There are many more top Indian CEOs. 45% of fortune 500 companies were started by immigrants. Know how America has come to this position before you talk. Just wait and watch how companies will push back.

dial_100 Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 (edited) No out sourcing, now cutting down on H1B, H4 EAD already gone. Who the heck is going to do the work here, lazy workforce who wants 10-15 hrs worth of work and twice as much salary? Nothing is going to happen. THey will cut down some in long term but sudden cut wont happen. Modi is not making decisions in his whims. He has well rounded team who help him. Some of you guys start throwing mud the minute you see something. Its not like our vote would have changed the decision in UN. It was pointless anyway. Edited January 5, 2018 by dial_100

Many Indians on the H1B are viewed as a threat by white trash Americans, they aren't happy to compete with foreigners. The republican base is not 'uneducated', they are wealthy elites and they know what the pulse of the country is. I don't disagree with your pro immigration view, all i'm saying is that the US is becoming more anti immigration and heading down an isolationist path. That's a bad thing for the Indians looking to make money in Amreeka but a good thing for the world, since a weaker, more inward looking America is a less powerful country. You are not talking about average republicans. They are against others not because they lose their jobs. Nobody is competing with their types of job. There is nobody to take up their job. They do not have enough Americans to take up the job. That is why they prefer Indians. Not because of cheap labor. None of the Indian who works with me works for cheap. Actual money that company gives to your company is way way higher than you think. Just that middleman takes a lot of money that is why it appears they work for cheap
G_B_ Posted January 7, 2018 Posted January 7, 2018 Democrats bigger threat to H1B than Republicans. Most motions against H1B before Trump came from democrat side. Think about it rationally. Study after study says that more educated a person more likely they are to support the democrats. I dont think the republican support base have problems with h1b. They are not in a conflict zone. They do have problems with mexicans for demographic reasons. Its exactly why many African Americans chose to tactically abstain in 2016. If your African American your in direct competition with Mexican labour. Indians on this thread need to google the views of the likes of Jesse Jackson on H1B. The truth is the American tech companies can easily employ an all American workforce. But that would mean a dip in profits as you probably have to pay them 20-30% more. What will happen is more automation and a higher expectation of productivity. Gollum 1
G_B_ Posted January 7, 2018 Posted January 7, 2018 and I will also mention part of the H1B ecosystem This whole cycle of (a) Going to the USA and getting an expensive Masters Degree with loans from Indian banks (b) Getting a H1B and working in USA (c) Getting a green card. Indian banks need to stop all loans to students who want to study abroad. A lot of these loans remain unpaid creating NPA problems in India. By all means if you put your own money in or your parents chip in thats fine. Gollum 1
gattaca Posted January 7, 2018 Posted January 7, 2018 All these is because there was a census report that whites will be minority in 2040. The republican voters don’t like it. They don’t want any kind of immigration. Obama also could have done something for h1b when he gifted EADs to dreamers but no. He wants only undocumented immigrants in America. Why would indians votes for Democratic Party is beyond me. They have worst policies that help their party only.

Remittances from the USA to India are poor compared to say the middle east. You have a point there. Most people working in the gulf send most of their earnings back .
chewy Posted January 7, 2018 Posted January 7, 2018 H1B visa is one way America has remained so dominant in science and technology, it’s the perfect brain drain of global talent, it might get bad press for it companies abusing it, but US has gained much much more by taking the cream of global talent in science, tech and finance There is no way US or Trump will end it, there may be new restrictions but too important to US’s dominance to end it
