How in the world did Jadeja represent us in 4 T20 World Cups?

Rules in ODIs with 5 out-fielders in the middle-overs meant finger spinners like Jadeja could tie things down quite effectively.  The rule change to 4 outfielders around 2015 or so, has defanged finger spinners.

Jadeja was never an allrounder, he was just a economical bowler who gave you the bonus of saving 10-20 runs in the field.

This really. Jadeja was a rare case of a bits and pieces cricketer who was useful in the shorter formats but evolved into a pure test player. I personally think he hasnt been the same bowler since the shoulder injury . Used to get sharp turn and bounce even while darting it in @ 100 kph a few years ago and was the only legitimate threat as a bowler in our ODI team around 2013. Is a much more complete bowler these days and hence his success on even flat pitches in tests. Loi's demand wristspinners these days anyway. The rules have ensured that.

He is a failed Ranji Trophy batsman who can turn his arm over in test matches on a turner .

Like Pandya he played so long in all formats because he was a pin up boy for TV commercials , advertising , not much real talent but pretty good fielder .

As they say , all that glitters is not gold .....I think Jadeja and Pandya are prime examples of that

Jadeja is a Fantastic test bowler. Better than any spinner England ever produced in the competitive era of cricket.

Cricket has always been competitive

It's two sides competing against each other !!!

Jadeja is a turn the arm bowler on turning wickets

How many wickets did the Fantastic Test bowler get in South Africa ?

While he has his glaring flaws, let's not knock Jadeja's Test bowling as someone who turns his arm over.  He didn't spin much with his darts, but brought to the table the control and consistency, two things much much easier said than done, that are essential for a Test class spinner and so hard to master.

He's got a bowling average of ~ 24 for a reason.  Of course he's played 25 of his 35 Tests at home, and his away average is around 37.  But he's done a job.

Remember when he was sent in as a pinch hitter in the 2009 T20 WC against England and scored 25(35)? Although that seems like an ATG knock compared to Dhoni's 11(23) in the same tournament against the WI. Good times.

Yes he was sent ahead of Yusuf Pathan and was clueless. Dhoni has been poor himself at international level in the T20 format. That 11 of 23 came against Westindies if I remember correctly.

Our selection policies are dumb/corrupt as hell, that's why. Its 2018 and we continue to play Pandey, Dhoni & what not in our batting order besides legends like Unadkat as bowlers. Selectors & team leadership either don't understand the format or have vested interests. It reflects in tests too with ftbs replacing sound batsmen like Rahane in tougher seaming conditions.

Jadeja wasn't absolute **** or anything close though, just an ok bowler who has been a symptom of a larger problem.

Ashwin the white ball bowler gets a lot of flak but he was very good initially, had 2 great WCs, 2 great WT20s and a great CT. Jaddu has somehow fooled the public about his abilities...serious liability. Even in 2017 CT F he was way worse than Ashwin but somehow luckily escaped intense scrutiny. Also a prominent selfish trait which has manifested itself in many important limited overs matches. I like only Jaddu the test specialist and want him to be in the scheme of things in that format for another 5 years.

Jaddu was awesome in CT2013- with bat and ball. that plus Srini mama/MSD connection kept him going this long

If you wanna criticize Jaddu please stick to T20s and ODIs, preferably the former as the OP was talking specifically about WT20s. In test cricket Sir is a different beast, a genuine match winner who had a great role in helping us get to a dominant position in the ranking table. Without the huge cushion we got in the home tests we would have lost the no 1 ranking in SA itself, instead we can afford to muck up in Eng and still continue to be no 1, extending our reign to 48 months (present ranking system came into effect from June 2003) thus leapfrogging SA, with only Aus ahead of us. Jaddu played a huge role, let's not forget that.

Before you get into Jadeja bashing he was playing good cricket. He was bowling well, making runs and fielding well. Now there is competition and he has lost his spot. But to say he was bad is not fair. If Pandya can be selected than Jadeja looks like a genius to me.

This is useless topic. He was better all rounder like yuvi in the past. Now he is not that capable. Every team always picks best combination when they play major ICC tournament. Based on his performance in IPL 2008 he was selected to national side. I dont see anything wrong because he showed better performance those days.

Oh please . Jadeja is twice the bowler Ali isand would walk into the English test team. Heck he would walk into any English team of the last 50 years that does not have Swann.

Ali is twice the bat that Jadeja is

Difference between the two is Ali doesn't think he is a bowler or want to be a bowler where Jadeja does .

Tell me again how many wickets this great test bowler better than every English spinner in last 50 years except Swann ( Underwood for one ) git in Tests in South Africa?

Our overall t20 selection has been poor. Dhoni, Rahane also have no business being in those squads. Yuvraj thankfully is now done, while i personally like Suresh he puts in so much effort but its time we also looked past him.

Gill and Shaw those are our future along with one of pant or kishan and Samson.

Funny how someone who is twice the bat jadeja is averages only 3 runs more than him(32 to jadejas 29) and averages 40 with the ball while jadeja averages 23. The only reason jadeja didn't play in SA is because we don't need two spinners in SA. Underwood, Laker etc. would get slaughtered on modern day pitches. What a joke - Underwood bowled medium pace cutters on wet wickets but he's great. How many wickets did he take in SA may I ask? I never said he's a great test bowler. But you don't need to be great to be better than the rubbish England have churned out over the years (Phil tufnell anyone):hysterical:
