Iyer is a good player he has the talent for LOIs but right now we have gun top 4.

He has higher potential than dk, manish, jadhav. But we dont have much time to groom him before wc. Experienced raina and dk are better options.

Dk had a lot of potential , bas mental block tha........talent to dhoni se kahin guna zyaada tha

Not really, nothing can match a peak dhoni or a dhoni with long hair who started as WK batsman, he used to smack 150 kph bouncers of shoiab akhtar, talent wise dhoni was ahead than dk.

DK Was technically far more sound its just that i feel he debut to early then he shud have and as he grew older he developed a lot of shots, as a wk also he was far more flexible.......Seem DK do well as opener in england n that is no small achievement

Dhoni played FC for quite a time n he may be alone was his team match winner so he had maturity n responsibility when he started. Dhoni in subcontinet was as good as anyone but overseas DK had a better game, dhoni kept improving his game and DK never got out of his mental block

Dhoni was more of self belief than Talent, DK was exact opposite. DK has the talent to smack 150 kph bowlers like Akhtar, but he would get out the next over trying to reverse sweep some one like Abdul razaq.

Did you go watch the game? How was it?

Yeah! Pretty good. The atmosphere was good, not especially electric in part perhaps Because it was not a close match (not that I was complaining about that ) the Indian innings started great but the middle overs was accumulation by Virat and Rohit. Could have been even more smooth had Dhawan not thrown it away

Bharat Army were in a next stand and their chants were great which livened things up.

Thought that India did great that day, good all round performance on a good batting wicket. Was disappointed with the pacemen not getting their lengths right and getting smashed.

Of course the lords match has soured things since!!

Rayudu has been a 46 avg: first class player.and his one day stats are hugely boosted by  large share of scores against minnows. But Iyer's case is entirely different

But Iyer got chances in odi and he looks like headless chicken during SA odi series. Only if he has determination like Smith he can survive as his technique doesn't inspire much confidence. He can surely change all this with determination and hard work and by not giving nonsense comment in media.

if we go thru the stats of that series, several high profile batsmen were not up to the mark, even from the home side. That being the case a rookie Iyer who scored 48 from 2 inns @82.75 str: rate did fairly well.WRT technique, even greats of the one day game  Viv,Dhoni,Miandad,Bevan,Dean Jones  etc etc became the players they  turned out to be not because of having such great techniques, but they possessed  their own methods.A batsman with laughable technique like Chanderpaul avg:ed 42 @ 71 str: rate  and scored almost 9000 one day runs and technique obsessed Manjrekar ,Boycott etc etc were  convincingly inferior one day  players to him.

Iyer definitely deserves his chances ahead of a hack like Kartik
