we got a keeper who cant bat

we got a keeper who can do lightning  fast stumping

we got a captain who can actually bat and keep

That I agree with.

Partly agree with that, but someone like Pant now clips the bails before they reach him, he moves his gloves towards the stumps like Dhoni - nothing impossible to do - even Dicwella does it.

Who was a complete tailender outside Asia, scored pretty runs in England, throwing his bat, when India were losing.

Did well? We lost 6 or 7 tests more away, again with the same cap!

A team with Ponting, Hussey, Clarke, MJ was whitewashed in India in 2010, they then went on to lose the Ashes at home with 3 innings defeats! So what's the common thread between this & the other time we played away?

Team with ATGs got Whitewashed while team with Ishant,Vijay, pujara,Kohli won atleast a test match in England :giggle: who is the captain ?

India achieved the number one status in Test cricket for the first time in its history in 2009, with Dhoni as captain.

Still lost all the away series, badly.

Just one in England, could've easily won the series if not Mr. Phony picking Sharma in the third test.

He also deserted the team in Aus, in tests, someone like Swann or Trott were called cowards for that.

Yep atleast we were able to win a match overseas with Vijay,Dhawan,Rahane,Kohli and co. unlike the whitewashes from so called ATGs like Sachin LOL

I used to be a critic of Dada in 2005/06 era when stagnancy struck the team. In the overall scheme of things, I have immense respect & admiration for the great man, who despite his flaws was pure gold for Indian cricket.

I also believe the whitewashes (8-0/11-1) wouldn't have happened with a leader like him. He had a fire in his belly that brought a lot of grit in tough situations, something that the process crowd won't appreciate or understand.

I'm surprised Dravid is middle of the road based on numbers; we made major improvements by winning in England & WI after really long gaps in both tours.

Exactly.

Process crowd can be ignored. Their collective cricket IQ is less than the number of overseas Test matches Dhoni won.

Edit: I had previously overestimated the process crowd's collective cricket IQ. Post has been suitably amended.

For all the Dhoni fanatics :finger:

Dada forever & ever, the other guy inherited a ready made team with some ATG players, the first guy made them.

It's other way round. Dada got Tendulkar (97-2002), Dravid (2002-2006), Sehwag(2004-2007) , Laxman (2001-2007), Kumble, Harbhajan (2001-2004) at peak.

Ganguly himself was good bat.

Had no good pacer or wk.

Dhoni has SRT (another peak at 2008-2010), Zak (2008-10) and Gambhir.

Dravid declined from 2007. Laxman was doing his job. But Dhoni had no spinner at peak.

Dravid was good as well under him we won the series in Windies who had thrashed us 4-1 in the ODI series and then we ran them close in the first and second test and the last test was a thriller which we won.We came close in South Africa in the last test we gave away the advantage by making Paul Hariss Lord Hariss our batsman screwed it up.Then the 2007 series win in England was a great achievement could have been 2-0 but follow on was not enforced by RD @velu in the first test we were 9 down but a certain wk batsman and a tailender defied the odds and rain saved the day for us.

Only SRT, Kumble and Dravid were first XI players. The rest were in and out of the team.

Just imagine what Dada would've achieved had he had a prime Srinath to lead our attack overseas.

Agreed, he is not the best in Test matches...but the comparison with Sachin and others is just meh! Ganguly was kinda better in Tests, but everyone else was just crap.

Dhoni overall as captain/keeper/batsman in all formats should arguably be the best ever in the world. It would be almost impossible to replicate that.

No doubt but Tendular's peak was about 95/96 to 02/03 & Ganguly also had peak Dravid & possibly Laxman as well. However the bowling attack we had was pedestrain. He was the one who stuck with Zaheer, for so long, also Harbhajan, Pathan, Nehra, Balaji had good careers under him. I'd say he was the first Indian captain who understood fast bowlers well, backed them more than even Kohli. The results were eye catching, especially against the best batting side ever i.e. Aus in Aus 2003/04 as we beat them & almost won that series in Sydney.
