TBH, Pujara does not have many real technical flaw. Most batsman have some but they are still able to score. His only problem he is not as naturally gifted as likes of Kohli and Rahul. he is a very limited batsman.  When he fails, he becomes tentative and his reflexes slow down and is late on the ball.  He struggles to judge the length and line of the ball from pacers early and plays defensively premeditated instead of reacting to the ball and struggle to adjust.  In India, he plays late, while overseas, he has premeditated forward movement and commits too early.

" I feel I don't have to prove myself to anyone other than myself. "  - yes hack.... Indian team batting position is your ancestral property

that has been passed over to you by your father. Not only this waste is utter  shameless , but extremely arrogant as well. Give a tight slap on his face and kick him out of the team.

Yes his biggest flaw is he doesn't read line & length well, a hand eye coordination issue perhaps. He is beaten on the inside edge and outside edge time again against both pacers and spinners because he has misjudged the line of the ball.

Apart from a technical flaw facing incoming deliveries, Pujara should have scored lot more runs, but his mindset is totally defensive. All he can do against fast bowlers is blunt them that too if he is lucky but scoring against them is not his forte.

He succeeds with that mindset in India because he is very good against spinners and he can score runs of them. Team play just two fast bowlers and they get tired and are out of attack in subcontinent but it is not the case in England/SA/Australia.

Even that century in SA he is speaking so fondly was result of Morkel getting injured and him scoring major runs against Imran Tahir.

I have no faith in him at all. This is where Rahane wins out , Rahane has more flaws in his technique but has aggressive mindset especially against fast bowlers.

What a pity two of our core middle order  have such major deficiencies. One cannot play spin and other cannot score runs against fast bowlers.

I would make Pujara a batsman only for subcontinent , when we can keep Ashwin out of the team away from subcontinent we can do the same with Pujara.

Pujara is another in the long list of contemporary indian cricketers who have not gone to the next level, its a shame none apart from Kohli has become a complete player, hopefully Shaw, Gill and Pant are different

I was fascinated with his fourth innings 70* chase in 2008 against Aussies.. but then it was in India.

it is not a flaw as such.  Dravid and Tendulkar both had issues with ball incoming. it happens because he is late in judging the line and does not adjust quickly enough and plays premeditated.

You mean 2010 but yes playing in India has not been an issue

Opposition bowlers worked me out last season - Handscomb ,

I feel I don't have to prove myself to anyone other than myself' -Pujara.

Until you accept you have a problem you will not work to overcome it, Pujara's mindset even though he has been worse than tailender this season is still defiance and ready to put the blame on everything and everyone except himself.

Mr.Pujara scoring one lousy fifty in whole series is not we can expect from a no3.

Nice interview .... successes and failures are history. What matters now is what lies ahead .... I hope that Pujara is able to leverage on his experience and skills to deliver good performances for India

Pujara comes off as arrogant with that statement here

This is crazy, he may have the biggest difference in home vs away average of a major player

Instead of Chepu or Pujji he should be called HTBu or FTBi

All that is true. But time is running out for him. Even in India his big hundreds have gone out of sight and if you're of no use away from home, maybe you won't have any place in test XI either. So at the most he'll have 2 tests to prove himself this time, if team management is kind enough.

Still teams would like to improve, no? I'm still waiting for Pujara to score in England. Even an average of 40-45 would do in the series. But can he? If Kohli doesn't drop him since the beginning, will he be able to survive? That's what I'm keen to watch this time.

In an interview on cricinfo, Ravi Shastri nearly confirms that Pujara will start in the playing XI despite the lean patch he is going through or is he just misleading the media?

Then there is Cheteshwar Pujara at No. 3. Questions about his position never cease. And his form at the moment is lean.
He's an extremely experienced player. I feel he is one innings away [from a big score]. He needs to spend time at the crease. If he gets one 60-70 under his belt, he will be a different player altogether. My job is to make sure he is thinking in that fashion.

How important is he for your batting line-up?
We have seen once he gets in, he makes it count. He is one player who will really make it count and hold the innings together, so he becomes important.

He told us in an interview that the team management has given him the security of his position and explained to him his role. What is his role?
Pujara is an anchor. He has been one of the pillars of this batting line-up for a long time. You know what he does - he loves batting (smiles). We just want him to do it. Unfortunately, in South Africa he was run out a couple of times [in the same Test in Centurion]. That is something we don't want. We don't want him to be an Usain Bolt, we want to him to be Pujara. Stay there at the crease. The last thing you want to do is give your wicket away to a run-out.

Does it bother you when a senior player goes through a dry phase?
You wish well for everyone, but having played and watched the game for so long, I know that you can't have everyone perform [at the same time]. When you have seven to eight players performing game after game, you are on an absolute roll. I think patience is the key here. Just hope and be patient. As long as the work ethics are good, as long as you are thinking clearly, then you are always positive that the right outcome will come.

The perception outside is that the team management is not happy with Pujara's run rate. Can you clarify?
It is not a concern for me at all. He has a role to play. He knows his role, because No. 3 is an important role.

-----------------------------------------

Will Pujara play? Also Shastri says that KL Rahul is the 3rd opener. Means Dhawan will play? Be ready to see India lose this series too folks, as it lost in SA.
