Perception about Ashwin can change now?

Happy to be proven wrong if he stands out in the series. Its been a great start but still a long way to go.Ideally he should be aided and abetted by another spinner, but that's a different debate.

One discernible element in the bowling yesterday was sticking to the basics and bowling classical off spinners punctuated with traditional arm balls that swing more than Bhuvi could have swung it.I hope more of this continues,it was lovely watching him bowl as a spectator.

Which perception? The time he mostly failed overseas was playing under Dhoni, who was mostly seen defensive.Ashwin being an attacking bowler consequently failed but no spinner in the history of the game has been successfull on tracks supposed to be supporting fast bowlers, other than Sir Shane Warne, even  Muralidharan failed to have any impact outside his comfort zone..Ashwin is a lion in SC conditions who can devour opponents and emerge victorious on his own,no one needed that's the respect he commands but still needs to win some matches on his own outside India (SENA countries)

Ashwin can retire today and will still go down as India's greatest ever test match cricketer.

Sangakkara was in all praises for Ashwin. Sanga's is Ashwin's well known bunny. While watching highlights Holding was beginning to talk about Kohli's selection fo Ashwin. Then they cut the discussion off. What were they discussing?

Wonder how well his county stint helped him. Duke ball helps him more than kookaburra balls. Still he is a different beast with SG balls.

SG and Duke are same. only difference is color.

Ashwin did bowl very well.

BUT

Matter of fact is Kuldeep should have been picked over ashwin as well. He has been doing good and he would have bowled even better, imo. He's a leg spinner and that is even more lethal. One could even argue for picking 2 spinners in hindsight but that is all over now.

And LOI's ashwin was dropped correctly so because he wasn't taking wickets, neither putting pressure. Cost us the champions trophy final and also the World T20 semis. Some people have short term memory and are blasting chahal/kuldeep while everyone here knows those two spinners were the main reason for India to win a ODI series in South Africa for the first time in 25 years.

Get your facts straight dude.

And lest not forget the fact that English batting is still revolving around Joe Root mainly. Their middle order is brittle. Their batting does not have big time scorers like Bell/pietersen/Strauss from the previous teams. And cook has been mediocre for years now.

This bowling performance is expected from Ashwin being a #1 bowler and all.
