I would say check the best performing fast bowlers in England for the past 4 years. See what type of bowlers they were, hit the deck or swingy kind or fast type? Accordingly pick from our probables suiting the English pitches.

Make sure to ignore outlier records of bowlers who did well on extremely juicy pitches or weak opposition if any.

Yup thats a great approach look at English conditions and decide, and if not for utter **** batting from our batters except Kohli ( and Pujara in certain innings), In Eng Indian pacers were comfortably outbowling the English in their own conditions , and it was evident that all of them including Pandya comfortably out paced them.. even in English conditions you can benefit from doing all the accuracy and length/line consistency but also doing it a little bit faster.

Our bowlers did well in tests..  doing well in ODIs on those 350 pitches is different.. Shami would be a good addition.

Absolutely.  The white ball won't swing much and the flat pitches won't aid much seam movement.

In such conditions, we need pacers who are very accurate.  But just accuracy won't do on those pitches which have very true bounce.

We need pacers with a bit of pace and bounce along with accuracy.   And have good yorkers to take the pitch out of the equation.

Bumrah first pick.

I am very optimistic about Khaleel having all the above mentioned qualities.

Bhuvi will be in the mix because of his death bowling skills including yorkers and accuracy.

Finding the 4th pacer in the squad is a challenge.   We have wasted time tying Shardul, Kaul and Chahar.  None of them have either the accuracy or the pace and bounce needed for the flat ODI tracks of England.

Even Shami and Umesh don't have the accuracy needed for those tracks.

Saini and Rajpoot may have the combination of accuracy, pace and bounce.  Saini can bowl good yorkers too.

But we have not included them in the 50 over A-teams even.

I think we have lacked planning regarding choosing ODI pacers wisely.

There seems to be only one place vacant  for one pacer as a backup.. for any injury to Bhuvi/Bumrah or drastic form loss. We will definitely play Pandya throughout or rest him with third pacer against weak teams. I think the two wrist spinners will do well since non-asian teams seem to struggle against them. If we have to drop one then the third seamer might get more chances. Considering all this, we are left with Khaleel or Shami since we don't have much time to try others now. Having said that unfortunately only shardul and chahar are handy with the bat and can land mighty blows at deat....this might tilt the scale slightly in their favor since Bumrah, Kuldeep, chahal can barely bat.

Pandya will obviously be there as a batting allrounder at 7.

And we will obviously have Kuldeep and Chahal.

I was talking about the 4 specialist pacers in the WC squad.

Bumrah and Bhuvi are certainties.

As of today, Khaleel is the 3rd pick.

Who will be the 4th one  ?

Yes ... Shardul and Chahar can hit a few big shots here and there.  But with a weak 5th bowling option in Pandya, can we afford a weak 4th bowling option too  in Shardul or Chahar   ?

The 4th pacer comes in the 11 only if a top pacer is injured and we are playing 3 pacers.   So ...  that option has to be a strong bowling option.

You are right.. there's no backup plan in that sense.. you cannot replace Bumrah with Kaul or chahar.. need a like for like replacement. Hence Shami might be their choice

With Umesh taking 10 wickets, I wont be surprised if he is selected.

In India, we do not consider format specific performances when it comes to known names.

Jadeja made an ODI comeback based on a 85 not out in a test match.

We will loose first test in Aus,no changes will be made, the dumb captain and the dumber coach will select this bowling line up

Bumrah

Bhuvi

Ishant

Umesh

Ashwin

Where barring Bumrah ,Ishant the three will be redundant,Aussie pitches are of' hit the deck hard ' kind,Ishant may bowl tight length s but cant expect him to get you wickets,at most he can hold one end tight, very demanding conditions there would mean we have to rotate our pacers in short spells,so we need good tall hit the deck bowlers, but the foolish team think tank have other ideas, they equate Umesh's returns in India with  conditions in Aus

This was the best possible chance to test Siraj and Saini who could have got the feel in the middle but opportunity was wasted

By the time we make our combinations right another series will be lost in a SENA country

Rayudu was selected for ODIs based on the IPL performance. Same with Kaul and Chahar.

Now Jadeja was selected for ODIs based on the Test performance.

lol.. It's astounding to see how clueless the selectors are.
