He's turned into a total flop and needs 2 seasons in teh domestics.

IPL screwed his technique. He was not this bad before. That shot he played to get out on 5th stump line is a white ball cricket shot.

Thats not technique, but more of mindset. Can’t blame IPL. Players must learn to adapt and change with format. If you are good enough, you will learn to bounce back and are able to switch to format faster.

As a general rule you should not be playing away from your body until you have got yours eyes set and feet moving. Play close to the body, get to the line of the ball and leave everything alone. The ball will come to you if you constantly leaving it away. It is natural bowler instinct. It just takes discipline. That is why I rate Sachin’s 241 in Sydney so highly. 

 

After you you get set, then you can play away from the body with caution because your hand eye coordination will be better. Sadly Bewda does not have the cricketing sense or balls to instill this in his players because his face is shoved in between Kohli’s butt cheeks 24/7!

Things aren't looking good for Rahul here. Overcast conditions, new ball and all 3 quality pacer. Won't be easy for him but this is his best chance to prove every one. If he fails again then might be hard for him to make comeback in 2nd test and will eventually be dropped when shaw is back.

But who replaces him? Both Vijay and Pappu Patel are also useless. Might as well give Rahul the full series.

If he fails badly in this innings and 2nd test then enough of him. Give him break tell him to work on his technique in domestic cricket or play county and make comeback. If he fails in next 3 innings his career avg will be around 33-34.

That's not the point. He is the one who will most likely to score runs besides Shaw. He has a Test century in England, afterall. We need to back best players from the squad. He is better than his replacements Sharma, Vijay and Parthiv.

Sharma and Parthiv isn't his replacement and it's too long he is failing as opener now. That century in dead rubber was meaningless on flattest england pitch where all bowlers were tired as well. If you want rahul to play for long then he needs break right now. If you play him all series and if he fails then it might be end of his career.

Atleast he has a century to his name. That's something to go by rather than a series of single digits incase of Vijay. 

 

He is the second best opener in the squad and he should be backed for full series, like how they are backing the likes of Rahane and Sharma.

I partially agree, the first 5 words are correct.

 

If he doesn't have the hunger to fight it out in test cricket, a youngster should replace him. Ditto for Vijay as well. Hope Shaw returns soon.
