Very defensive captaincy on day 5.

 

So few men in catching positions with numbers 9  to  11  batting ...  lots of runs left to defend ... bowlers on top.   Poor.

 

His bowling changes were good in the first innings.  Using the the fast bowlers for shorter spells, with only 4 bowlers bowling, was a good thing to do.

India should have batted one more session easily scored 400 in second inning.  Very poor batting by Pant Rahane Ashwin and Shami..piss poor.

Ofhers were attacked with bouncers mainly. Lyon and all were welcomed with bouncers than wide of off stump and field was set to baised om those deliveries.

What captaincy blunders did he commit, Ashwin had to play this test and most probly will play next test too, given they have 6 lefties.

 

The bigger problem is how Ashwin was unable to exploit that rough against righties.

That is the problem. Attack doesn't mean bowl bouncers. Aussie lower order is not exactly mug with the bat. You have to bowl to them like you would to proper bats.

do you really think if he went al out with attacking fields they would have won this match easier. I don't think so. We have to honest Ashwin was never the same threat as Lyon and our fast bowlers cannot run thru side, so as a captain he took conservative approach and made them work for their runs.

Virat is not the brightest around and hes a safety first approach guy , but there are some positives ..he brings in lot more energy which rubs on the team and do we have other options ? I dont think so

Joburg 13 when Dhoni was captain he was defending 448,  he went all out attack and was leaking runs like anything and in the end it was SA who were in position to win that test. All out attack works only if you have capable bowlers.Indian bowling attack will not work with all out attack they will lose control very easily.

lol I have used the same argument for Dhoni when he was getting critisized by likes of you for being overtly defensive . Funny that we are defending Virat here with the same excuse today when Virat clearly has a much superior bowling at disposal .

I criticized Dhoni the captain for defensive like waiting to declare with even 600 plus runs not going after easy targets to win a test. But that test he put attacking fields even when Zak and Shami were just not able to do anything. It was attacking field without backing of his bowlers.

Jadeja would have been deadly to lefties turning into the rough. He could have taken starc, hazle out cheaply at least.

I am really tempted to use Jadeja. He is very consistent and if he has any rough he would kill all the lefities.

Show me one Indian captain who is better than him. He has led from the front facing all challenges.He is solely responsible for this pace attack to rev successful.

He has no spinner who can win him tests outside India. He created spin twins in Odis.
