Global.Baba
Rahane’s approach yesterday was disgusting. Dumb and pointless. As a senior bat he had to stick around for Vihari and Pant to guide them. Rather than doing that he came swinging like it was the final overs of a T20 game. He was flaying the ball around. No game awareness whatsoever. He is the culprit in this final innings. How can he be relied upon as one of your seniormost members? Had he got a Jaffa or if it was a technical deficiency would have made sense but getting out the way he did was inexcusable. For this alone he needs to be dropped Edited December 17, 2018 by Global.Baba sscomp32 and UrmiSinhaRay 1 1 Link to comment
zen
It appears as if he is not confident of staying at crease for relatively longer periods and therefore tries to get as many as possible before he gets out Global.Baba, Switchblade and The Dark Horse 3 Link to comment

Not for your top batsman Unfortunately, a lot of guys select players based on what happened in Aus years ago for e.g. KL scored a 100, Vijay and Rahane average high, etc., overlooking current form and as if they will magically replicate their performances .... Though Rahane has looked relatively better than the other two Aus was a great opportunity to try some new batsmen. May be to start building team for 2020s. Unfortunately Shaw got injured, but could have included Agarwal earlier and may be fast tracked Gill Like Vijay, KL and Rahane, other players who look good on paper are Ashwin, Jadeja and Bhuvi, along with Umesh, esp. if conditions favor them, but on the ground they may not deliver as per expectations Edited December 17, 2018 by zen GoldenSun 1 Link to comment

Kohli and to some extent Pujara you can expect to deliver a clutch knock, Rahane is just onthe bridge between top order and lower order which comes with a lot of responsibility. His irresponsible game should not go unnoticed. As someone mentioned the other day, his contributions tend to get overrated. A mental midget if there was one. UrmiSinhaRay and zen 1 1 Link to comment
rtmohanlal
Rahane is the Sourav Ganguly of this team . As of now his performance in SENA is still very good in itself.Ganguly had the added responsibility of captaining the side,he was a left hander,he faced superior quality bowling in general, WI too was a very good side in Ganguly era, despite all considered Rahane has a better all round record in SENA compared to Ganguly. Also in this series too he played a crucial part in Adelaide win. That being said, his approach was far from adequate from the view point of a winning team. When Kohli got out, it was his responsibility to stay as long as possible . Might be he had some method just as in the 1st inns, but in both the inns he fell short of the eventual required runs from the team point of view.In the first inns too, a bit more at the least was expected of him, at the least a further 24 runs from him would have gone a long way along with out the madness of that dumb ass moron Kumar Dharmasena in India even winning the match .But as it stands now we are sure to lose this test. So despite Rahane meeting his own target of 81 runs, it is clear that from a team point of view that is inadequate. That is why I always maintain that team management should always be on the look out for better players to suit the team purpose,I mean just because they have a Rahane who avg:s 41.5 at no:5 position, they should keep on doing the trial and error method to find a replacement who can avg: even 50+ from that position. Having said this Rahane has still 2 more tests to compensate. If IND wins the series with him avg:ing 45+ by the end of this all, I would feel he would have done his part to perfection. Cricketics
Pethetic petition when you don’t have two proper openers and your all rounder is injured. We don’t have luxury to drop our any of number 3,4 or 5 in that scenario. Just hang tight and worry about other slots. Rahane is here to stay until other places are resolved. If this team fails to win in Aus then that will be 3 consecutive overseas series lost in a year and it will need serious gutting. A new cycle will need to start with younger and hungrier players, passengers like Rahane will need throwing out to make way for the next generation. Global.Baba and zen 2 Link to comment

putrevus
Rahane and Rahul scored on grounds which were flat pancakes, that is no indiacation of their talent. Rahane is not in class of Pujara.Pujara you could see his grit coming thru even when he was struggling.Rahane is a very weird guy, he plays too many shots in tests but not enough in other formats. Because it was poor and irresponsible batting. Rishabh Pant is young and inexperienced and when he is getting criticized for hoicking when not required why not Rahane? And people saying Rahane made some great contribution to the Adelaide Win, he scored a half-century. Since when is that an unexpected performance from an experienced no.5. It wasn’t like he played a Dravid- Laxman type knock. Sure Pujara’s knock was clutch or Bumrah’s relentless spell. Rahane’s contribution wasn’t any greater than Ashwin’s 6 wickets which in itself was an average performer from your sole spinner. You did not write any of this in your op that we are talking about home series. At home of course we can rotate but we can not have 5 new batsmen batting with Kohli, we just can’t. We have to give him a senior or two and transition slowly. First transition starts with opener. Dhawan is well out of the team for goos and we are finding repalcement for Vijay. Once we have done that, we can worry about Pujara and Rahane. Till then Rahane will be part of my team at least for any overseas test. If we have some solid players like Vihari cementing their place once given chance at home, then surely they can permanently replace. ODIis a different story but in test I can’t have 5 newbies at a time in a line up. Mazak nahi ho raha. This is test cricket. These guys took us to number 1, whether they failed or whatever recently. prasen82
lets sort out the openers first and then come to rahane.. wholesale chopping not needed. get one steady opener and the other will fall in place. once we have that, rahane will also thrive... sadly rahul turned out to be a sheep in lions hide.. needs to go back to domestics.. with warming enches fr one year and having shastri and bangar as mentors he has regressed terribly.. needs to go back to ranji and A team and be under dravid for a year to sort out mental issues. till then rahane can stay.. for now lets play pujara as opener and try out one more opener. stack the lower order with 2 bowling all rounders ( jadeja/ashwin and pandya). that will tilt the scales. we will have 4 pace bowlers and one spinner and one part timer...
