Adi BB
Pandya should play over rohit,he is a better bat and off course a better bowler than rohit in tests . Vihari and agarwal shouldn't open together I feel ,better to open with pujara for stability and play vihari at 5 . Vihari and agarwal opening might result in another disaster similar to kl and vijay Link to comment
rtmohanlal
Why the need of Rohit .... just can't understand as to what his addition benefits .... there are already 7 in the team who avg:s more or less around 50+ in domestic cricket. If these 7 can't do the job, how can an 8th one from the same set up do it??? Just strange ....the policies of these morons ....Kuldeep would have been a great addition in the team in the place of Rohit. Link to comment

The next thing you know, Pandya breaks down into his 3rd spell on day 1 and we are doomed for the rest of the match. Pandya played Ranji before coming here UrmiSinhaRay and zen 1 1 Link to comment

As for batting, he is as good or bad as those being considered for 6-8 spots. To Pandya’s advantage, he can score 100s Hats off to Shastri-Kohli for what? Probably this is another thread where the fans have invented a reason to praise the combo UrmiSinhaRay 1 Link to comment

Real McCoy
I would have picked Kuldeep ahead of Rohit as he is a bowler that aussies will struggle to read and he is also a better bat Suhaan and UrmiSinhaRay 2 Link to comment

But trust me it's not a good move. Rahul and Pujara should have opened. Rahul don't deserve much but throwing Mayank in opening in Australia against Pat, Starc, and co is as pointless as Rahul's brainfarts. Don't at all see Mayank succeeding here. He should not be debuted in Australia for his own good. For all the roguery one could have, the evil combo have played smartly here,i see it as quite unfair for people like kohli who would be jumping on the antirookie bandwagon after a certain failure of a debutant (and that too who makes a debut in Aus),they will very conveniently brush aside mayank after this failure and continue with their love affair with Vijay,Dhawan,Rohit, rahul, pappu patel etc UrmiSinhaRay 1 Link to comment
vayuu1
I think it's the best possible combination, As we don't have any choice, kuldeep is still finding his feet and rushing pandya straight in could be risky, also there may be grass in mcg but we usually it's dry beneath the grass so with both jaddu and vihari can exploit the conditions plus we can rotate fast bowlers from other ends, the key is to win the toss and bat first and look to score 350-375 even if it means if we bat at the rate of 2.75 -3 runs per over remember one thing mcg will be very hot, temperature are predicted to be around 32-35 with the 3rd day beng the hottest so the pitch is bound to crumble, it is advantage Australia before the match, but it's upto team India to nullify the advantage. King Tendulkar
Some say hats off. Others say shocking as Vihari career will be ruined and this is delibarate move to destroy Vihari career loool UrmiSinhaRay 1 Link to comment

Deleted_User_1
Rohit against Lyon will last no more than one over. He has mental issues to sort out in test cricket. UrmiSinhaRay 1 Link to comment
zen
Ideally you do not want to play all 3 from Rahane, Vihari and Rohit (their runs are more like bonus as they are inconsistent) on this kind of surface as it makes us a bowler short on paper to push to attack Aus as we would like. Best way out is to score big in the 1st inning UrmiSinhaRay 1 Link to comment
youngindia
6 specialist batsmen have to be developed and that can only be done by playing them. Pant or pandya are not no 6 material for the near future and they both cannot be played. 5 bowlers was a foolish idea from the start and is practically useless. Hope they stick to a similar combination for the future. UrmiSinhaRay 1 Link to comment

Pandya struggles when it swings, on this patta he could have been a handful (also can bowl a few overs). Rohit, well, he is Rohit afterall..... UrmiSinhaRay 1 Link to comment
Cricketics
Boys have picked a brilliant team. Sad for Vihari but team is defeniteky good. They oerform or not is a different thing that no one has control of. Some bold moves. UrmiSinhaRay 1 Link to comment

Rohit, well, he is Rohit afterall..... Pandya is significantly inferior to specialists bats, even compared to Karun or Tiwary in technical foundation. He is one of the best bowler bats in the world...At an above 6 position, he could be an asset if he improves his bowling in the future. At no 6, he is a liability as he occupies a specialist's position and will harm team building for the long term as well..In two -three years time, a specialist has to be reasonably settled at no 6 and Pandya cannot play that role. Neither feasible short term or long term. Edited December 26, 2018 by youngindia edt Link to comment
Deleted_User_1
Any thread that starts with hats off Shastri should be immediately shut down! It breeds incompetence, can incite complacency and is a threat to democratic processes!! (j/k) philcric 1 Link to comment
Pollack
Pujara should have opened. Vihari should play in middle order. Rohit out. Link to comment
