Very weird team, they just have four batsmen and three fast bowlers, team is filled with bits and pieces players.

Ripe for getting their asses kicked.

And he was one of the top wicket takers, IIRC.

Who did absolutely nothing in the last few games, all the pressure was created by Shami & Yadav.

Reminds of laxman and dravid from the Odis of the 90s.

That knock played by laxman during sandstorm 1

he had an SR of 140 in IPL before this season.

Rayudu can score match winning 100s against SL,Bang,Zim and Afg. Already proven.

Shankar at best is a 30-40 run player against any opponent

shankar has never played against these minnow sides to say for sure, he made 40+ against Nz n Aus and never looked like getting out ...only runouts got him

If ipl is the criteria for ODI ....rohit sharma, kuldeep shud not be on plane to Wc . It shud be rahane n manish pandey who shud be on plane if IPL is the criteria

What was Dravid and laxman's sr in ipl?

Dravid 115, Laxman has no IPL record on the IPL site.  Kohli IPL SR is 138, Rohit 131.

mongia did well in 2003 wc??? when ?

and who are the other player u pointed in co ?

Reasonably well, learn to read perhaps? The other "co" being Kaif, DM was picked over VVS for his bowling (5w) & did reasonably well with that. VVS was a better choice purely for his batting though, that WC also had about 3 dozen bowlers avg under 25 with the ball & half a dozen under 15 ~ was by no means easy batting then. Mongia didn't set the world alight with this batting but his avg was semi decent if you look at Sehwag, Kaif & even Yuvraj. The same way as Mohit didn't do anything spectacular in 2015 WC.

Kaif was decent player

VVs cud only bat at 3 that time and their was no place as sachin , sehwag, sourav had to bat

plus his poor fielding didnt help and he didnt bowl to

mongia avg 20 in that wc.....how is that even semi decent

Mohit sharma took 13 wkts with eco under 5 and avg of 24 ..............these are damn good numbers

Keep your basics to yourself, go check the stats of Sehwag, Kaif & Mongia in 2003 - if you know how to do that - then add 5 wickets to his tally. He also batted just 6 times, always down the order. Considering 3 of the top 7 avg sub 30, he did reasonably well in that WC. Now go check stats of best bowlers in WC 2015, Shami or Yadav always picked up wickets in front. Mohit was no world beater, just like Mongia. He did have a purple patch in the WC though, that I can agree.

Apne basics apne pas hoi rakho to accha hai. VVS batted could bat at 4 if needed, his fielding was also not so poor back in 2003.

sehwag made runs against SL, final against Aus

Kaif made runs against Nz when match was stuck......kaif biggest asset was his fielding

what did mongia do ?didnt do anything in 6 innings also apart from holland

VVS avg 24 at 4......the reason it didnt suit him coz most days he didnt get to bat in PP which use to help his s/r

Never rated him as pure batsmen and I dont consider him as a AR , though his bowling may be relatively more useful in Eng . All said I wudnt go that far , calling him the worst ever is stretching it . I can easily name a dozen more who are far worse .

That’s exactly my point. Rayudu May look like a hack but he managed to get 90 runs where as Shankar got an elegant 40. At the end those 50’runs mattered.

People have so much hate for Rayudu that they started blaming him for Shankar’s runout in that game but if you watch the dismissal, it was actually Shankar’s brain fart.

Shankar has looked good on cameos but at the end of the day runs matter. I would take Steve Smith any day over an elegant Rahul

Don't read much into IPL performances. He was picked based on his gutsy performance in 50 over cricket prior to IPL.

That is what his role will be in world cup too. He won't play every game, but when picked, he will be expected to bat in middle order and help the team and bowl few overs also.

Right choice. If it doesn't work, it doesn't work. But he is surely better option than many picked. IPL is clouding many people, relax a bit and forget this t20 tamasha. 50 over cricket is different and batsman's approach will be different too when he plays that format.
