That I guess everyone here agrees. We are a pacer short in the squad. Edited June 5, 2019 by philcric

The problem for Ind is not completing 5th bowlers quota but playing 5th bowler as 3rd seamer. yes, Aus has Cummins, Starc both handy with the bat being strike bowlers as well.

No need of 6th bowler. 4 bowlers & all should be wicket takers, Aus played with 4 main bowlers & still do! BK cannot play in this team for his batting, as simple as that & he's an avg fielder at best. In fact I'd pick Jadeja ahead of him, if it's just for batting because he also brings his great fielding onto the field.

You cant have 5 or 6 wicket taking options and also have batting depth. What you need to find is a balance. When you consider Pandya's batting lower down the order, his bowling is a decent trade off. So let me just rephrase it, Ind team balance doesn't look world cup winning material. They are obvious holes. People need to understand bowling is India's strength and it is being compromised due to lack of balance.
R!TTER Posted June 5, 2019 Posted June 5, 2019 Well yeah that's a given, right now this team doesn't look like it can go all the way & win the trophy. On paper even Pak's combination looks better, I'm still backing Aus though!

None, because just to reiterate Ind end up compromising one strength or another when piece of the jigsaw is adjusted. I think I made it apparent in my earlier posts, it's not captains fault , it's just that he is forced to play this flawed combo over others.

I think it's blindingly obvious to everyone that our team has holes. Any combination of XI from our squad will be a compromise some way or the other. So, "Impossible to win the WC with Pandya as 3rd seamer" is as good as saying "Impossible to win the WC" ... unless you feel there is a better combination you can come up with. putrevus 1
cowboysfan Posted June 5, 2019 Posted June 5, 2019 I would rather play shami than bhuvi who has completely lost the art of taking wickets while Shami has been playing well of late.i have no idea why they dropped Shami in the first place.
rkt.india Posted June 5, 2019 Posted June 5, 2019 Australia of 2003 had just 4 specialist bowlers but all were wicket takers. Switchblade 1

ViruDilSeKhelo Posted June 5, 2019 Posted June 5, 2019 (edited) This was obvious the moment the squad was selected. Selectors screwed up by selecting 2 spinners who can't bat. One should have been dropped from chahal or kuldeep regardless of bowling ability. Imagine wc final and being 250-6 and then 280 all out maximum. Or having only 1 good pacer playing in bumrah. A good player like shami is kept out due to these spinners who are a curse as talented as they are. Jaddu should play at 8 and drop one of the wristies so shami can help us in key matches over bhuvi. I'd drop kuldeep and bk next match for jaddu and shami. Edited June 5, 2019 by ViruDilSeKhelo ShebbySB 1
vijay50 Posted June 5, 2019 Posted June 5, 2019 With respect to bowling, we need to play 3 frontline seamers to win the cup. So play Bumrah, Bhuvi and Shami ( as first change bowler) in all matches. Also keep Jadhav ( off spin) and Pandya at 6,7 in all matches. That leaves only one spinner slot of leg spin which is Chahal. If Kuldeep( left arm chinaman equivalent to off spin) has to play, then Jadhav ( off spin) and Chahal has to be dropped and jadeja ( left arm off spin= leg spin equivalent)has to come in place of Jadhav to provide batting depth. Otherwise you end up always compromising 3 rd seamer like this SA match. Since matches are in Eng ( pace friendly) i will drop one spinner and play 3 pacers in all matches. Otherwise we will be knocked out in WC. Rahuls form will also contribute to WC exit, but its a different issue. AuxiliA and sergio04 2

Pandya is not our problem who can bat even at 6 and play as 6th bowler, but the problem is none of Kuldeep, Chahal, Bumrah, Shami can bat nor any upcoming young bowler whether pacer or spinner can bat in LOIs. There is no one who can bat even like Rabada let alone Morris. Rahul Chahar, Mavi and Nagarkoti can bat...maybe they will be picked after the WC against weaker teams. Batting depth adds a great value to the team which we lack in our LOI team. Edited June 5, 2019 by ShebbySB ViruDilSeKhelo 1
MCcricket Posted June 5, 2019 Posted June 5, 2019 The only problem with India is Dhoni being there where Pant should've been, keeping up the scoring rate
