Real question is whether Smith and Warner's tuk-tuking cost Ozzies the game.

Smith wasn't tuking, it was just Warner. Smith played a safe innings, probably played just for the NRR & not an outright win, except at the end with Mad Max.

Smith is for me the best Test batsman by a distance, but as an ODI bat he is not even in the top 10 of the world these days. VK, Ross Taylor, Root, Babar, Butler, Rohit, Roy, Dhawan, Williamson, etc. are all better than him. Heck, Warner and arguably Khawaja are better.

Smith played decent innings today. Warner's inning and that run out finch is questionable but they will work on these issues.

Kohli batted brilliantly, knew exactly when to accelerate and when to conserve and let the other guy bat. And here its always the same, ICF is really getting pathetic. Folks should be less emotional and read the game, you are a fan of the game right ?

Was bumrahs 48th over good or bad too- he did not take wickets so are you sure he was not bad in that over ? . lol poor understanding of the game.

these days, run-a-ball is close to tuk-tuking. this thread was initiated by someone criticizing Kohli for scoring at slightly more than run-a-ball. My point was that VK's innings was not as problematic as Warner's (and Smith's to a lesser degree).

I don’t think it was intentional like a certain other batsmen we have . He has paced it well for first 50 balls , but just dint get enough strike in the end . Yeah not great by his standards , but I think it’s  just one off

Batted at a SR of 107.  Same as Dhawan.

Good SR for top 3 batsmen.

Lower order hitters are expected and needed to bat at a higher SR.

Not really . These days the top order tends to have better strike rates . The likes of butler are an aberration , but even some one like Amla scores at 100 sir which is slow

yes with margin of victory it proved costly- he should have hogged strike a bit more and racked up another WC century for India. Needs to learn more from Rohit and MSD. Never mind...next time.

Pretty sure out of 70 odd deliveries ,half of them were faced against starc and Cummins with the field in and Australia in search of wkts .that's always gonna be tough for even a batsmen like kohli to get going straight away against those classy bowlers ,he had to take time to settle in

No. 6 and 7 typically have the highest SRs in many teams. Butler, Maxwell, Pandya (who was promoted this time), Russell strike at around 120 or so.

It was a good knock by kohli make no mistake ,similar to that 90 odd against Pakistan in CT17 when he struggled to get going throughout the innings but in the end smashed the daylights out of those poyzz.

That day he got to face plenty if deliveries in the end ,not today

Yeah 6 and 7 are lower middle order , who will normally play out your last 10 overs . It’s the no4 and no5 who have a difficult job of scoring in middle overs with no luxury of power plays . This is a stage no team wants to lose wickets , so it’s extremely difficult to maintain higher SR , unlike first or last 15

that's true. the only player who batted consistently at 4 and 5 who had a SR of 100+ over a long span was ABDV, but he is a real freak. Having a career SR of 90+ in this position is very good. And VK's SR has actually been increasing slightly every year.

Yeah AB is a freak and Buttler is not very far off , Virat has too much pressure on him to play with freedom so I don’t blame him for being a little more cautious. This is where we need help from openers , not sucking the momentum out of every innings . It becomes difficult for everyone after that
