Because he hadn't done before anything as such today. This was just 2nd good (impactwise) innings of Jadeja's odi career. Interestingly both against NZ. sandeep 1

nevada Posted July 10, 2019 Posted July 10, 2019 Played like a champ today. He showed plenty of heart and put the so called specialist batsmen to shame. If either Pant or Hardik could had managed to score a quick 20-25 runs before getting out, we might have made it.

Jadeja has still not won India any game with his bat. He is effective as a bowler in indian conditions and is a great fielder. that's set. Today he had the opportunity to win the game and become a hero but he wasted it. Even without dhongi's help, he could have done it. Edited July 10, 2019 by haiwan

To be honest he plays an oustanding knock today but lets not forget he has been crap in LOI as batsman for 10 years. If he improves great......but he has been crap for 10 yrs
Sooda Posted July 10, 2019 Posted July 10, 2019 To think I was all for selecting Krunal in the squad instead :)

He is still developing and improving as a batsman. Unfair to make this comparison.

Sorry man but Pandya right now is like an awesome yatch you can afford if you have a billion $s in your account, has value but not when you are living paycheck to paycheck. Maybe extreme analogy but you get the picture. International cricket needs finished goods who have a short learning curve to adapt. it took 3 years for him to improve his bowling but still having him means we need to sit out a very good seamer be it Shami or Bhuvi or a batsman. I am not going to say allrounders don’t exist but I do subscribe to the theory that specialist allrounder is another name for bits and pieces ViruDilSeKhelo 1

He bowled more overs and took more wickets than Ben Stokes. If not for him, we may not even have made the semi-finals. If he keeps up his current level of production, and never improves, he's still an automatic starter for this or any other ODI XI in cricket. * off with your bias, and go pronounce the next Ben Duckett as a "future ATG". zen 1

It hasn't been useless for 10 years but team management don't know how to use him and clearly he has talent. If you still think he cant bat we deserve tail like chahal and kula in all games. Anyway we are both sad today..let's hope kohli and shastri go. addicted4444 1

He cud have been better used at 5 when he has a lot of over like he had today or in 2011 knock in eng when we were whitewashed 5 minutes ago, ViruDilSeKhelo said: If you still think he cant bat we deserve tail like chahal and kula in all games. It has to be a lost cause or a mad dart for runs at the end of an innings. Did anyone seriously think Pandya was going to go big today - like seriously? Jadeja grows into an innings, doesn't need boundaries to feel secure. I might have gleaned that from his recent test batting more so than one-day which just strenghtens my arguement if anything i dont care what his stats are. When you really need someone to go big in that one knock, who is your money on? Edited July 10, 2019 by goose

I might have gleaned that from his recent test batting more so than one-day which just strenghtens my arguement if anything i dont care what his stats are. When you really need someone to go big in that one knock, who is your money on? I understand that a guy like you keys in on probabilities. And you look at Pandya as an 'unsafe' bet. That's the nature of his batting toolkit. But I think you are under-rating him. A bit. And try to take a deep breath, flush out your euphoria on being right about Jadeja, and then re-consider your statement about Jadeja 'growing' into an innings. Did you seriously think Jadeja was going to "go big" today? He played an absolute unicorn of an innings, profited from a whole bunch of airy fairy swipes that fell short or into no man's land. It was only a matter of time before he was going to be dismissed going for one too many. Jadeja's ODI batting record underwhelms you with its consistent mediocrity, precisely because he has a limited toolkit as a batsman - an inability to hit good balls for boundaries with any sort of consistency or minimal risk. Pandya, for all his pigeon-holing as a 'mad dart', is a guy who plays the high elbow cover drive, and straight drive - early and often. And has done it against top shelf bowling. You are not being objective here. I'm saying that as someone who holds your opinion in fairly high regard. Edited July 10, 2019 by sandeep zen and flamy 2
