express bowling Posted October 23, 2019 Posted October 23, 2019 (edited) Most of the players who played in this series are either first choice players or injury / incapacity replacements. Bumrah will be back when he is fit. So, the only contentious selections were Saha over Pant and Rohit over some other batter who may or may not succeed in Sena. Rahane over Vihari ( although I don't like it personally ) was always going to happen as Rahane is the VC. If ... -- We are selecting 9 players right -- And winning against a historically strong opponent who have humiliated us many times in the past -- And our fast bowlers are winning us matches sans our best fast bowler on slow tracks of Asia Then ... There is not that much to be sad about And there is a lot to be happy about our fast bowling and fast bowling culture. Completely annihilating SA in a test series is something to be happy about just in itself. This is not a series against a long time minnow where team building is the primary objective. I would be unhappy if we do not try Saini, Gill, Pant, Vihari and Kuldeep against BD in tests. Edited October 23, 2019 by express bowling Suhaan and Mosher 1 1

Cricwala Posted October 23, 2019 Posted October 23, 2019 This was a thumping win against a proud cricketing nation, SA. No mean feat, we all need to take pride in the achievement and ruthlessness shown. I was not sold on Rohit as opener - but he has shown the stomach to guts it out, curbed his natural game in first hour, if he can build on this mental toughness and conquer his ego even more, who knows - he might succeed in SENA too. After all, some of the best openers in the game have been players with limited techniques and far less shot-making talent than Rohit (think Langer, peak Gambhir, Graeme Smith). Yeah, challenges remain when it comes to winning in SENA, and we should keep raising those...and the gaps in our LOI cricket are a different matter altogether which requires urgent attention and a leadership change.
Ankit_sharma03 Posted October 23, 2019 Posted October 23, 2019 Only 2 complains i have dropping pant and dropping vihari, at home we can win with 4 bowlers Whoever Tm decides is our no.6 players- vihari, nair, pandya, gill whoever needs to play home games not just overseas or else their stats will always be ok-ok and they will be under pressure

That has been happening for years now. I think you joined the party late. Welcome. Now that you are here, a World Cup win, or any major tournament means lots. Thats how a team stamps its ruthlessness. Suhaan 1

At the same time a lower ranked Srilanka thrashed SAF 2-0 in SAF convincingly(chasing huge scores in 4rth inns in both tests) which is an emphatic testimony to the inadequacy of this TM. Lets look at some facts. 1, India can only play the team put up against them, cant revoke their participation if opposition does not have some particular players. 2, Ind and SL did not play the same SA team so that comparison does not tally. 3, India beat SL team when they played each other. 4, SL team was good enough to beat SA

The OP is trying to press that Shastri and Kohli need to be accountable. They are getting away scot free. This series or any other series is just a metaphor. The only way they will be questioned and held accountable now is, when they lose at home.

Based on that this TM has been far off. Does not change a bit , the fact that SL won those 2 tests vs SAF lot emphatically than what IND achieved because of them batting 4rth chasing big totals(based on match scores) against great bowling attack.
Forever Indian Posted October 23, 2019 Posted October 23, 2019 I think people are going overboard both ways. When it comes to the series win, we should all remember that this SA team lost the series to SL 2-0 at home 6 months ago. This was with likes of Amla and Steyn in team. Whereas a few months before that we lost to similar team 1-2. It is very clear that this SA team is a pale self of itself even at it's home having lost to SL of all teams. And India being very strong at home is not a new thing, has been happening for years! Whitewashing this SA side is not a big deal. My gripe is that we already know what we can do at home, we were anyways going to win with any Tom, Dick and Harry in team against this side. But why did we have to go back to tried and tested failures in SENA like Rohit, Umesh, etc. and not get some youngsters prepared for SENA and future tours? Surely, that foresight is required. If this playing of tried and tested players continues there will come a day when we may be at the other end of this table like SA or SL.

No. Shami has evolved huge since last tour to South Africa, he's almost 5-6 kph slower version of Allan Donald right now. This Indian attack right now reminds me of that Ashes 2005 bowling attack. Watching fast bowlers fully expressing themselves in tests is more fulfilling than an ICC tournament win for me. Rightarmfast 1

Bro, 5-6k's? Really? When? When did Donald bowl 5k's quicker than Shami? He bowled in early 150's ( if he did ) in the early part of his career. Even around 96-97, he was clocked at a fastest of 147, if I remember correctly. That is so similar to Shami's pace ;p express bowling and abc 1 1
