All They Were Doing Was Getting Anushka Sharma Cups of Tea at World Cup: Farookh Engineer

Recommended Posts

As if, this needs to be told. Virat Kohli is singlehandedly ruining the future of many a cricketers. Indian cricket is nobodys baap ka raaj, but thats exactly what Kohli is trying to do!

Former India international Farokh Engineer has slammed the current BCCI selection committee questioning their credentials and stature and instead advocating for the likes of Dilip Vengsarkar to be part of the panel.

The current selection panel is headed by former India wicketkeeper-batsman MSK Prasad and also includes Devang Gandhi, Sarandeep Singh, Jatin Paranjpe and Gagan Khoda.

Engineer, who played 46 Tests and five ODIs between 1961 and 1975, feels the presence of a strong-headed Virat Kohli has ensured selection isn't a worry. "We have got a Mickey Mouse selection committee," Engineer told The Times of India. "Virat Kohli has a major impact (in the process) which is very good. But how are the selectors qualified? Between them, have they played about 10-12 Test matches. I didn't even know one of the selectors during the World Cup and I asked him 'who the hell he was', because he was wearing the India blazer and he said he was one of the selectors. All they were doing was getting Anushka Sharma (Kohli's wife) cups of tea. I feel people with the stature of Dilip Vengsarkar should be in the selection committee."

He cited the example of how Rishabh Pant has been handled, saying the youngster should have originally made the cut for the ICC World Cup 2019 instead of Dinesh Karthik. "They shouldn't have dropped him (from ODIs). They should have picked him ahead of Dinesh Karthik for him to get as much experience with MS Dhoni," Engineer, 81, said.

He was also critical of the Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) to run BCCI's day-to-day affairs whose reign ended earlier this month. "They (CoA) had no idea about cricket. (Diana) Edulji has played a little cricket but you need somebody who has knowledge of Test cricket, international cricket, international matches. The intention was good from the Supreme Court and the Lodha Committee, but the implementation wasn't done properly. It was a very very wrong choice of people (appointed in the COA).

The CoA was headed by former Comptroller and Auditor General of India Vinod Rai.

And there are resident expert says what should poor kohli do... It's selectors who are giving him aweful players. The kind of power kohli is enjoing would definitely going to destroy 2-3 young careers. Look at how he reacts in dressing room , on field and award ceremonies with his team mates.

If true.......why were they serving her tea. Maharani ke haath tutte hue hai kya .

There have already been reports of her not getting along with other player's wife

Doesnt she come across as a snob of the highest order? These kind of people put others down to feel elevated. You could imagine her sense of proprietary that she didnt feel ashamed at her behaviour. These are power hungry, egoistic megalomaniacs!

Selectors serving tea to captain wife during a WC! Imagine if this is happening publicly, what all the players must be doing to keep the captain, his spouse and their chums happy. What a shame.

Is this how professional set ups work? Player power is good esp when you have a set of greedy administrators but to have such unprofessional behaviour is absolutely not on.

Indian team and London High commission posing with Maharani in the middle during India tour to England...

Kohli can treat her as Maharani all he wants, but he has no business getting her special treatment from Team India perspective!

Look at Thakur .....now I understand why that guy keep getting selected in every other series.

We dont have 3 options for that as of now

It can only be Rohit in LOI and Kohli in test

Bumrah can be tried being developed as a captain for T20. We do not play so many T20's anyway. If things fall into place, he can be a future captain for India.

bowlers are out wth injuries a lot specially bumrah workload management wud be of lot of importance so the games he ll miss most wud be t20s. If he keeps missing bilaterals how will he build team n get use to players. I doubt fast bowlers can be looked at for captaincy these days. I think only mashrafe does it ....but he mostly plays for his captaincy now

KL can be looked at in t20 , but current TM has made sure he doesnt have a fix spot in t20 which he deserves. Coming IPL we ll get an idea coz he ll captain KXIP

Iyer another option but he also needs to cement his place 1st.....

She should know better than posing for team picture, she should also understand why there is a backlash. If Kohli has no brains what happened to hers  and why is she putting herself in these situations.Nobody cares if she bought her tickets or not, have we seen any other players wives in team pictures from any team.

Nobody is asking her not to support her husband or the team but she should maintain her distance.
