Sanjay Manjrekar: "Pressure has to be put on Rishabh Pant to be more consistent"

Why don't you guys try and open with Pant, specially in a format like t20 where you can experiment.

PP overs and field restrictions would certainly help him gain confidence, also giving him time to set in since there would be ample of overs to bat.

You can't be consistent if you play risky game.

Aussie openers hv been consistent despite being risky as well.

Pant cannot complain about chances not being given to him. He has been given plenty of chances. He is not shown he has any clue on what he needs to do at any given match situation. You may be not able to execute your game plan every match but you should atleast have a game plan.Pant has not shown that he has that game plan.

1. Make Pant murga each time he gets out under 30. 2. Take off his pants (literally) every time he is 'inconsistent' and make him serve drinks to team in next game. that shld do it, rt manju ?

I agree with some other posters - pant will never cut it under Kohli, i doubt he can even replicate his 2018-19 overseas test batting heroics now. He should be dropped from all forms and focus on FC for 2 years. Likewise,KL Rahul shld only be played as T20 opener (that too if TM wishes) or as LOI wicket - keeper, and otherwise focus on FC and county cricket. Gill, Shaw shld also be kept away from LOIs till 2023 WC.

Rohit,Dhawan, Kohli, Iyer, pandey, KL/Dhoni(WK), Hardik, Jadeja, Thakur/bhuvi, chahal, bumrah shld be our LOI team.

Did you start watching cricket in 2016? Haven't you watched Yuvraj/Dhoni/Raina in the mid-2000s?

raina was consistent ??? haha

Dhoni post 2008 cut down his aggresive shots due to his back n taking grafter role

yuvi batted at 4 and his peak started at 5-6 year of international cricket....has pant played that much. yuvi was not at all consistent before that

Did u stared watching after 2007 coz u dnt remember their struggle

If the team (read Kohli) finds him not suitable for the middle order, the mostly likely outcome will be that he will be replaced. The top four will be Dhawan, Sharma and Kohli, folowed by Iyer or Rahul.

The best solution is to find a second keeper who will rotate duties with Pant (i.e alternatively play matches) before taking a final call before the World cup.

What is the fuss if he is dropped .  If he is not scoring , does not look right , please drop . You need to test an alternative too.

Let him go back and work out things  for next 3-4 months .

Always selection should be based on :-

    1)  someone selectors think fit a role

     2)  Is in form .

no harm if he missed few games .  But he should always be in contention and should again be considered once some work has been done  to rectify the issues .

Tbh, apart from this forum I have not come across any fans of Pant or his batting. Infact I have only come across his critics.

I still believe he can only be successful in opening slot. Batting in middle order in ODIs is an extremely difficult art.

Pant is only 21 so plenty of time left to fix his flaws. He is very promising, attacking player, excellent timing and a competent keeper. With age on his side he will only get better.

My only qualm is that Pant is struggling in the national side. The pressure, focus, expectations have all taken a toll. This is no more the trailblazing youngster we saw at the start of 2019. So why prolong this suffering when he can work on his game elsewhere?

Raina was a very good lower middle order player. Did what you expected of him a lot of the time. More than what you could say of Pant.

And? He was still a good player till about 2012/13. You think it's his fault that he didn't go for wild legside hoicks every second ball regardless of where the ball is bowled? That's exactly what I mean by calculated risks.

How long he batted was never the point. The point was being able to play consistently while being aggressive/taking risks. You said in another post that Kohli batted well at No. 4 because he was new, and now when Pant playing at 4 can't score runs you say, "Oh, but he's new".

Pat's last 3 ODI innings 71(64), 39(16), 28 (33) - thats 138 runs@46, SR of  120

He's shown enough vs WI that he's settling down well. Upto the TM now to decide if this is good enough.

Here we are talking about consistency he was never consistent. Pant played well last series. Raina for his consistecy got dropped at start

That approach came with less risk taking which made him a diff player that approach wont work today with increased target. Today we need someone in butler mould not dhoni

U want pant who has played 1-2 yrs to bat like dhoni raina yuvi with 5-7 yrs of international cricket maturity thats not possible

A batsman like Pant may not be consistent in the early part of his career.

But he is getting quite a few games on the trot now.

And a few impact innings are expected.

Not many of those are noticeable.

Samson should get a few chances too.

71(64) and a great partnership with Iyer, 39(16) previous to that - these were his knocks vs WI. Impact innings?
