Manny_Pacquiao Posted June 18, 2020 Posted June 18, 2020 (edited) I actually mentioned this in the china escalation thread. They run ads from haier and vivo. It's not surprising, republic is a probably the most watched news channel in india (i don't have the data for this). They have 4 minute long ad breaks, they have many top sponsors. They are partisan, and unapologetic, but i still like the channel for one and only one reason: THEY ARE THE ONLY MAINSTREAM TELEVISION CHANNEL THAT OPENLY AND CONSISTENTLY CRITICIZES THE CONGRESS PARTY AND THE 'GANDHI' FAMILY. It's also important to note that criticism of a party doesn't warrant its exclusion. So you can make an argument for promoting chinese companies while disagreeing with their policies, provided their companies do good for society without getting in the way of governance. Which is true in the case of vivo, haier, xiaomi, and others. The chinese promise no political interference and are interested in little more than making money. Westerners, on the other hand, openly interfere and promote their judeo-christian values as 'universal values'. Their companies seek to shape society to their benefit by influencing policy-makers and the public: remember facebook's "free basics" digital colonization? Which side is better? kosingh Posted June 18, 2020 Posted June 18, 2020 I stopped watching all cable news a while ago...in India and US (republic, ndtv, CNN, fox news...). Happier for it. Get news online. One has more control to filter the nonsense. If it weren't for sports I wouldn't have a TV!

Facebook, twitter and american platforms are assuming editorial responsibilities to prevent "foreign meddling". Eventually, social media will become an extension of mainstream television media. In some ways, it already is.

diga Posted June 18, 2020 Posted June 18, 2020 Republic maybe garbage but will it consistently keep twisting news to keep that halo of secularism... NDTV has been a master of it for more than a decade, while Republic is in its infancy.

Maybe because of background noise, India is a noisy country and no one can disagree. My father worked on the shop floor in a factory (steel making) for 30 years and for 4 years before that in an oil field (drilling), so even when he talks normally people might misconstrue it as him deliberately raising his tone, he literally yells even when making casual conversation. He can't help it, having worked in that environment it became second nature to him. Edited June 18, 2020 by Gollum
Deleted_User_1 Posted June 19, 2020 Posted June 19, 2020 If US media is biased and not objective, Indian media is gutter trash.
coffee_rules Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 I know they have raised the importance of the scandal with 24 hr reporting, but badgering watchmen and delivery boys is horrible journalism
