People still remember Sachin's failure in 2003 final even though the target on that day was impossible for those days.. no body cared that he was the top scorer in that world cup.

Dhoni scored at a pedestrian pace in that NZ match.. caused lot of pressure on Jadeja to slog.. Got runout and we lost.. Dhoni did almost nothing in world cups except for that 2011 final.. still people dont care much..  both having Demi Gods status.. but expectations on Sachin was something else in those days.. these days we tend to move on very quickly..

In his last SIX years of test career, Ponting didnt cross 50 average even once, he averaged below 45 in 5 out of 6 and below 40 in 3 out of those 6

Meanwhile, in his last 6 years, sachin averaged over 45 in 4 out of 6, including average of 68 and 78 in last 3 and half years. After averaging 47, he played just 1 and half years before retiring. unlike ponting, who played for 4 more years after last averaging over 45 in a calnedar years

How is avg around 45 bad ??

Which aussie cricketer have they allowed to play 200 test ??

Also another reason he wudnt have played 200 test is aussie hardly give anyone a debut at that young an age..its rare.

Also few times TM wanted him to shift at 4 in odi both under ganguly n chappell  and he wasnt happy ....he wnt have been able to give that to aussies TM

Yet indians will fall over backwards claiming how strict aussies were. I swear Indians have no bigger enemies than fellow indians. They will lie, cheat, do whatever just to show other countries are superior and Indians are somehow bad at everything. This is called the indian crab mentality because if you put crabs in a jar, and if one tries to escape, others will pull him back

i can also gaurantee you will completely ignore the facts in this post and repeat this lie again the next time about how Aussies are so strict

Kaha ki baat kaha pe... Did i say they dont cheat ?

Some here dismissing ' the pressure of expectations' Sachin faced as 'nothing factor'. I only pity them. For them....no body  cares about cricket even in a country like England except for the Ashes.Similarly  every other cricket nation except India has been having  'games other than cricket' as major sport or far lesser population  or  'far more educated & there by mature & level headed fan base' or a 'combination of all these'.  Naturally cricketers from other nations be it even from AUS or ENG faced far lesser pressure of expectations compared to Sachin.  Sachin had to play 'GOD' for crores and crores of

immature  illiterate emotional  people  thru out his career.

Posts like these just show to me how self-loathing suck ups some Indians are. Then how can you take such people's opinions seriously?

In his last SIX years of test career, Ponting didnt cross 50 average even once, he averaged below 45 in 5 out of them and below 40 in 3 out of those 6, including twice in last 3 years of his career

Meanwhile, in his last 6 years, sachin averaged over 45 in 4 out of 6, including average of 68 and 78 (mainly during our over seas tours) in last 3 and half years. After averaging 47, he played just 1 and half years before retiring. unlike ponting, who played for 4 more years after last averaging over 45 in a clanedar years

Yet indians will fall over backwards claiming how strict aussies were. I am sure some of you still wish you were slaves of western people and could worship them and fall at their feet

Only if some people actually loved the country as much as Sachin’s bhakti  .... Worshipping Sachin means zilch (moreover a negative due to waste of time)

Sachin squeezed out more from India than what he ever gave back.

I am not sure if the entitled Sachin would have averaged 50 if he played in the top order in tests.

First, let’s see some demonstrated ability from Sachin to avg 50+ in the top order in tests before shelling out #s and comparisons.

Dhoni can't  be blamed for the NZ and nobody was expecting him to play well except for irrational fans like me , it was top order failure.

would he have been an even better player?

I think so..

the incredible amount of pressure that he was subjected to.. TVs being switched off the moment he got out in ODI chases.. the craze.. being the best player in the team by miles from 90s..  weight of the nation on his shoulders.. remember him telling about that centurion 2003 game.. people reminding him to win that match an year before the actual match..

Now contrast that with the other players of his era and current era.. sure they would be under pressure to perform but the criticism levels and public anger is no way near to ours... if steve smith walks in some busy street in sydney.. probably few aussies might say hi / some might take a selfie.. basically the pressure to excel is mostly personal / team goal for them.. for sachin it was 1 billion hearts pumping for his success

All countries have their own version of pressures.  This pressure aspect is overblown if you ask me. If he had extra pressure, he also had extra support, every player and cricket team has their own circumstances.

True. When one reads certain comments like immense pressure, weight of expectations you feel as if ehsaan kiya desh pe khel ke. All these guys are privileged lot who got to represent their country and perform. And it wasn't as if their careers suffered with the "pressure" and "expectations", they got mega returns for delivering for their country and played as per their whims.

A batsman who averaged a  very good 42.36 in his first round of SENA tours  even before 20 years of age  need not beg for that  'charity' from the nation.  he  more than earns  his position by sheer performance.

https://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/engine/player/35320.html?class=1;spanmax1=07+jan+1993;spanval1=span;template=results;type=batting

As for your 'squeeze' accusation,  it is batsmen like Pujara & Rahane who are simply doing that...... Not even playing LOIs, yet gives  only once in a bluemoon performances and suck to the team like parasites.Sachin never needed that.

let me tell you one thing. It was in 1987 . Pakistan toured India amidst huge political animosity between the 2 nations . Losing to them at home was just unthinkable. Yet India lost test series 0-1 and were humbled in ODIs.Fans were so  deeply hurt. For teenagers like me, it was like losing a war to them.Sunil  Gavaskar immediately retired after that series. Frankly we firmly believed India could never  get those sort of players who could dominate a team a like Pakistan. It was amidst this desperation that the  'news of a 15 year old wonder kid'  came in the local new paper in a small column. Fans like me saw him as some sort of messiah.Ever since I followed him closely .His debut series was talked about with so much  'importance and exposure'. He was tagged upon  as 'special talent' from various quarters even by foreign media.Ever since his first public exposure as 'wonder kid',  crores  and crores of people across   the nation expected  a lot  from him. They expected him to surpass Sunil Gavaskar  and be the best batsman of the 90s.

To cope  with the pressure of such huge expectations and still maintain  such high standards  thru out his career was  not at all an easy task.

Good to know that Pujara and Rahane have received as much fan following as Sachin, while being compared to Bradman

Is that your criteria for 'squeezing ' ?  My understanding is ' being a pedestrian in the team and till  earning undeserving money'. Any way , we can   agree to disagree here.

But pontings average wasn't around 45, it was below 40 for 3 years.

You are right about the early debut thing though

So you ignored the facts and went on a rant again. I like your strategy, make up lies, when slapped with facts, rat out and go on a tangent

Fact is that Sachin is an entitled cricketer, whose fans equate to worshiping him as patriotism (fake if it is the only avenue where they use it). Since he does not measure up to the expectations, they try to find solace in a variety of excuses and hypothetical scenario

The fact is that for a large part of his career Ponting batted in the top order, where Sachin did not :winky:

That is a lack of understanding of test cricket on your part. The post that you originally quoted speaks about entitlement including playing w/o the pressure of being dropped

Australians would have loved to have someone like this in their team who dominated them like this EUCcZeaVAAEsiO1.thumb.jpeg.4da97ccffb3d11b59bd241a7a5ef1bc8.jpeg

Now matter how many differnt ways one asks a question, the answer is always the same , Tendulkar is  the greatest of his time overall.

We all know what happened to the other teenager who was going to be messiah-lite at the same time.  Tons of ability, but couldn't handle the adulation, never overcame technical deficiencies, and faded away.   In some aspects, SRT's mental toughness is commendable, yet in others it is questionable.

There are many reasons, wellknown ones, why Sachin was compared to Bradman by many, while he was still in his early 20s, and was far from 'accumulating' statistical greatness.  Including by Sir Donald Bradman himself.

Put that fact in your 'top order' cigar Zen boi!

Fact is that there are plenty who fall prey to the mindset that by attacking a bonafide legend with made-up statistics, they demonstrate their 'intellect' and willingness to not follow the herd, when the sad pathetic reality is that their pantomime of contrarianism says more about their own inadequacies than the subject at hand.
