Would the result have been different if India was batting first?

I personally think, Indian bowling especially fast bowling has not been as bad as it looks. It has been average at best but not terrible. Bumrah,Shami and Saini have bowled some probing overs, unfortunately not getting wickets at the top for  which  they definitely deserve blame or toothless middle over bowling by spinners also has its impact.

Mindset of a batsman coming in at 100/150 for 1 with no pressure is the best thing to ask for.

India would have easily made 330-350

scores in first 2 games as you can see even Starc and co have been toothless and then chasing would have changed the dynamics of the game as they would for any team chasing 330+.

However our batting was forced to attack a lot more to chase these big totals so not sure how much they could have made setting up a target.

Its only a hypothetical thought but still I think our bowlers will only evolve by the time tests are here and no way they looked like trundlers or bang average.

Well we don’t know what we don’t know. But batting first with no pressure of a target on patta has its benefits. We would have definitely scored 350ish scores. would that have made the aussies take more risks at the top while chasing & lose wickets at the top? Possibly.

But our bowling has been just bad.

They might have..

I strongly feel they should do away with tosses in bilateral series.. They should let the visiting team decide what they want to do.. The hosts already get the advantage of conditions, pitches, familiar crowds etc. Why should they get the toss advantage too? Let the visitors decide if they want to bat or bowl first to get closer contests

Nope.

Our bowling is absolute trash except shami.

We have a spinner ar avgng almost 40. A fast bowler who cnt pick wickets with new ball. Another spinner who is past his golden period.

And then we gave hyped up players like saini who's only claim to fame is having a shoe that says- - fek it bowl fast - -

And people want that bowler in tests loll.. Will get hammered for 150 runs in 30 overs and then disappear to oblivion after this series

I feel in the late evening under lights temp dropping down ball is moving a little bit more than it is during the day time.

I don't think we would have won both thr game batting first but it gave a huge advantage to Aussies.

We need to accept bowling is trash..  We made NZ chase the highest Chase in NZ ever I think after scoring 340+.  Bumrah is not a new ball bowler.  Shami is decent.  Saini is well..  Chahal has no variation,  poorest googly & flipper in the world.

Bowling is the problem

If india batted first they would  have atleast won one game if not both. I won't read much into these games other than  fact that india needed to get closer to the target bowl aus out for 20 odd runs lesser and loose by 20 odd which would be purely toss then. But bowling has a problem.

I think the pitches have been very harsh. Aussies have had us measured well and prepared such pitches. I dont think Saini will ever be a demolisher of batsmen, but I do think he can scare batsmen with pace and bounce. Not sure how he will fare in this series though.

We have persisted with bad choices so many times in the past that I think perhaps he should be tried in tests. Theres also a possibility that he could turn around things to some extent.

The greatest travesty will be if kohli throws saini out of red ball game because aus ftb'd saini in some loi road with toss advantage. Aus found even Aaron and umesh tough when they bowled those 1 out of 50 good deliveries. Saini can get 10 out of 50 good thats fair odds but I won't be surprised if kohli does kohli hope its siraj not that other midget thakur.

Thakur would be such a disaster. And after conceding 100 runs, he will give that puppy face of innocence. And on 9.5th delivery of his quota of overs , when the batsman would hit almost a 6, but get caught at the boundary, he will celebrate like Shoaib Akhtar.

Yes but i wish such leniency is allowed to other new comers as well here rather than creating threads saying mayank has wasted his chances after 5 matches. He deserves as many chances as say a Saini does.

We wont do zilch unless we take early wickets. Our bowling is mediocre.

Aus middle order isnt the greatest and scorebook pressure might do damage, but we just dont bowl wickettaking deliveries.

350 would be chased by them as they did last year before the wc and NZ earlier this year.

NZ did chase 350 against us earlier this year and very comfortably, 2-3 overs to spare. 3rd ODI they made mockery of our 300 total. If our quicks are unable to provide breakthrough in first 25 overs what do you expect against top sides? Unless our new ball bowling improves we are toast.
