Lone Wolf Posted December 19, 2020 Posted December 19, 2020 Where guys like Unadkat & Vinay Kumar are legends.. So our players barely get to face quality bowling. Kohli was talking about intent but our players lack backfoot game to tackle high class bowling. Those horizontal strokes that Tim Paine played.. Nobody in Indian XI can pull those off. Even Wade played plenty square of the wicket. So Instead we should give more credit to Young Indian players who do well in IPl & draft them in A tours rather than wasting time on domestic beasts who fail when they face quality. Players like Pant & Kishan can provide serious quality as both of them can face Pace easily & have horizontal bat strokes to succeed overseas. I am sure they won't do worse than current lot as pure batsmen even. speedheat 1
chewy Posted December 19, 2020 Posted December 19, 2020 Ranji competition has always been a joke, cesspit of politics and nepotism. Even IPL teams dont trust Ranji performances and use their own scouts. It is only by sheer population India is remotely being competitive, just doing enough to throw up decent players. But overall domestic structure is inferior to others which is even more shameful considering how many actually play first class cricket. nevada, Lone Wolf and Tattieboy 1 2
Vickydev Posted December 19, 2020 Posted December 19, 2020 Yes. The new guys that have come in like Vihari and Mayank have shown such poor foot movement. I guess its mostly down to not playing really tall fast bowlers back home and they are tentative to come forward here facing such attack. Vihari atleast comes across that way. Less said about Shaw's "technique" the better

raki05 Posted December 19, 2020 Posted December 19, 2020 Basically our players are fattus. Having a good technique is advantage however, our cricketers don't have balls like du plessis or any other gutsy players. Look at du plessis and see how man back against the wall inming he has played. Same goes with ABD in test cricket. I have never seen Kohli playing any such inning other than Adelaide where Vijay also played well and sa. Kohli has failed at many occasion in such scenario to stop the collapse, bloddy we lost agaist even sl after they followed on and we couldn't able to chase 165. You need mentally tough players with balls of steel these fattus are softie most of these players have better technique than Smith, labu, Duplesis but they are too fattu and darpok to survive tough situations. nevada 1

IPL's quality is much better than what we see in domestic cricket. The SMA trophy is also one of the tourneys in the country that has potential to unearth quality talent.
Sandeep99 Posted December 19, 2020 Posted December 19, 2020 India has too many domestic teams and most of them are run by corrupt administrators. Vihari has a first class average of 59. He would have averaged 35 in Australia. Lone Wolf 1

Kohli deserves to be in our line up.. But my point is about other players. You mentioned Du plesis but also see the kind of strokes he has in his armoury. Our players will keep getting exposed just coz they don't have the shots... Especially horizontal bat strokes. I was watching Babar & Rizwan's knocks in GABBA Brisbane & I was impressed with the kind of stroke play both those guys showed. Especially Rizwan who scored plenty of runs square of the wicket through cut & horizontal bat strokes. No wonder he was successful in England as well. That's why I am advocating inclusion of guys like Pant & Kishan in the XI coz they have the strokes to play against quality bowling. Technique is overrated. nevada 1
ShoonyaSifar Posted December 19, 2020 Posted December 19, 2020 Our A teams and younger age teams do quite well away from home against A teams of Aus, NZ, Eng, SA. But the struggle begins at the international level. A lot of it has to do with the thoroughly unprofessional TM and an inept coaching set up. It's their role to ease the youngsters into international cricket but they see their main role as captain's cheerleaders. Put the same youngsters under professional set ups and they will do much much better.

Well if you recall the last series when Pujara flourished he played some cuts, upper cuts, hooks & pulls as well. It's clear, to me, that not playing shots or a particular set of shots is a definite strategy. Whether all the senior players are in on it or it's imposed by the TM & drunken mater - that's unclear! Franco Vazquez Posted December 19, 2020 Posted December 19, 2020 Blame Australian commies and ex players. No one overrates Indian Test team unlike them. SA does not, England and SKY have turned India into a laughing stock, NZ doesn't either. So it's only Australia. Indwin 1

Pak A team scored 300+ in 2nd inns.. But we all know they will suck at international level. Thing is to identify talent. Look at Travis Head.. Guy started as T20 specialist but on the basis of his ability he is regular in Aus test team & he did well in Ashes too. Our domestic cricket is not good enough as simple as that. We need to change venues or pick a pool of 20-30 players & play them against County, Shield & South African domestic teams. Only then we will be able to identify genuine talents. Every Tom dick n harry can score against Vinay Kumar & Unadkat anyways.
Sandeep99 Posted December 19, 2020 Posted December 19, 2020 Let alone vihari and the likes, have we ever seen Lolli cut or slash the ball towards gully? They only rely on cover drive and don't have a lot of shots other than that. Even today lolli was out trying to drive the ball. Sachin cut down cover drive and made 241 in 2003 albeit against a weak attack. Can anyone in the current line up do that? SK_IH and Lone Wolf 2

Yes Pujara does play them occasionally but we know how he bats... Also he doesn't have the gift of timing.. He's more of a grafter. So he can't pull off those strokes everytime.

This is spot on & Virat is your best batsman & he can't play cut or backfoot punch. Aussies know that well. Rahane initially was very good player of cut & horizontal bat strokes but just like his form over the years he has declined badly. Vihari, Saha have zero backfoot game. Pant likes to score square of the wicket & is ideal batsman to have in Aussie conditions is benched. Cover driving suits in Indian & SC conditions but when ball is moving around it's a risky shot. Tendu, Dravid were leagues above this trash. Sandeep99 and sorak 2

For all the talk about his greatness, this fellow hasn't played a single good innings against Australia since 2017. Perth last time was an exception but it was clear India would lose it and it was more for theatrics. Australia hypes this guy up to get market and does all the PR stunts like bringing him and Smith together. Lone Wolf 1

In fact other than Smith, no Aussies batsman has a 40+ away average in recent years. But they keep giving opportunities to their youngsters before discarding them and their international set up is such that one or two youngsters keep stepping up. On the highlighted part, that's exactly what A tours have been used for. They are a few notches below international cricket but talented players get identified there. Unfortunately, this TM has no interest in developing them further. That's what we will get with a set of yesmen who are not qualified to be coaches. express bowling and Lone Wolf 2
express bowling Posted December 19, 2020 Posted December 19, 2020 The problem today was lack of definitive front foot movement. Back foot play wasn't the issue. The batters hung back to deliveries that were on the fuller side and showed poor footwork.
