12 overs - 2 maidens - 39 runs - 0 wickets...

Most expensive bowler in the team with zero wickets...

You give me one reason why Umesh Yadav should be in the test team on away tours?

Why?

You can take it to the bank that this guy will fail abroad. I hate the stupid seniority **** that got him in. He shouldn't even have been part of the squad.

i have been asking the same question all the answer i have gotten is same- scared to try something new

Umesh is still there because Siraj and Saini were not given chances in home tests against weaker teams like Afghanistan, Bangladesh and the WI.

Unless that is done, it is not easy to hand debuts to rookies in tests in SENA, unless it comes via injuries ( as is the present case )

And all this has happened due to lack of foresight by the TM. They did not think about contingencies in the future but were happy to rest on their laurels.

Very true. Always happy to take the old ball and very good in dry subcontinental wickets. Rahane’s only mistake was to hand him the new ball but understandable though as Siraj was on debut.

sadly this is how our TM works, most of our players get debut in tough condition as they dont understand players strength n weakness before and when its found out they have to throw in an inexperience player

TM Mantra is aaj ka jhmri taliyan dikhao kal ka taj mahal kisne dekha hai

It is not just this aspect.

Umesh is a round arm bowler and hence lacks natural bounce with his good length balls ... But the balls skids through.

In Asia, lack of bounce works in pacers' favour because the main mode of dismissal is stump directed skiddy balls at pace. And Umesh is a natural at that.

While outside Asia, the main mode of dismissal is the channel delivery which bounces a bit more and is caught by the keeper or slips. And Umesh is not good at this.

How can a scatter gun bowler bowl Stump Directed balls?

His time is up in any form of cricket anywhere.

No excuses. You can’t have continent specific bowlers. Kick him out an get bowlers who can bowl and take wickets anywhere.

Saini won’t do worse than this idiot on this tour.
Thus should be his last match on this tour.

Or play Rohit in his place...Bolster batting as Umesh won’t take wickets and give loads of runs away...

He errs in line ,often enough.

But the captain packs the field on the leg side and he has the ability to produce some wicket taking balls eventually.

I agree. We can't have continent specific players.

I am in favour of choosing only all-condition players.

Also we should take into account Siraj's habit of leaking runs in some spells in every match if you look at his previous outings . And in some other spells will take 2-3 wickets in a spell .  At 38-3 Rahane did not want to let pressure off , hence Jaddu was in.

Think as he gets more control ,he will start with new ball along with Bhumrah in SENA

Pace bowling is toughest job in cricket not talking about Umesh here, bowlers take time to find their feet, newcomers have been a given a go just for the sake of it,that too in wrong formats and were judged accordingly

Guys like Saini,Siraj were busy yawning on the bench at home against sides like SL,BD,that was quite cruel and you expect them blow Aus in Aus

Pacers should be getting their debut at young age

Having said that Prasidh should have played by now, stats doesn't matter when you see something special in a guy

Tyagi should be getting his debut atleast this year

A country with zero pace bowling culture will barely play a young pacer any time soon

I highly doubt they would drop the nostrils for Saini. Brainless brute animal will somehow keep his place lol

I remember wistfully hoping that Siraj would get a debut against WI when we were scheduled to play against WI at Hyderabad. His home ground where he has taken so many FC wickets.

That's how other teams debut promising young fast bowlers - give them a chance at top flight cricket in conditions that they know well, giving them the best chance to succeed.

Test match bowling is as much science as it is art and instinct.  And confidence plays a huge role in the rhythm and instinct of bowlers.  India have not learned how to develop and bolster these.  Indian pace bowlers succeed against the odds, in spite of the team management, not because of them.

You and I have been screaming hoarse on this forum for more than a year now, that Siraj is a quality red ball prospect, you risk hurting his development by throwing him into random T20s etc where a wicket-hunting predator gets slapped around by less than worthy batsman, because of the attacking lengths he bowls.

I am just relieved that his test match debut went as well as it did.  No thanks to the likes of "seniors" like Umesh Yadav in the team.
