Has women cricket improved that some of the players can make it to the men's team? And if so, is it feasible to have a combined men and women cricket teams (based on merit not quotas)?

There are some good women players:

Zen I like your American classic movie list kind of threads which you create. You have potential there.

Too nervous to be smashed by a woman batsman? :eyebrows:

This is like Serena Williams claiming she could beat anyone in men's tennis outside the top 200..

Some guy ranked 203 took the challenge and beat her 6-1  6-2.. and then came out to the press saying anyone in the top 500 in men's tennis could easily beat Serena..

Cannot imagine the women cricketers facing Starc or Bumrah.

In tennis, there is mixed doubles .... in fact, a lot of sports have mixed doubles

There is a difference between playing one shot back at the man vs playing the whole point or the whole game. I see woman cricketer bowling to the male cricketer or vice versa as the woman vs man playing the full point or game.

And they can’t play? Are there no women cricketers who can handle medium pacers, trundlers and spinners?

As long as such ground rules can be made, it's fine. Can't imagine them facing a fiery Mitch Starc

Is being able to face Starc a criteria for selection for men?

PS there is no right or wrong answer here .... only trying to understand how posters arrive at their conclusions

This is going like a Khota thread discussion.. It is hypothetical.. After having watched women's cricket, I would put the intensity similar to an U16 men's game..

Would a 16-old year U16 cricketer be able to face Starc? Maybe..

But is he likely to get injured more than a 30-year old men's cricketer.. Of course.

Is it worth the risk and does it offer excitement for viewership? Probably not.

Not unless you want them killed. They aren't used to 125 kph, forget 150 and what if.an Andre Russell collides with a lady, women have lower bone/muscle density, much more fragile compared to men with same body weight. Only sports where we can combine them at elite level without reducing it to a joke will be bowling, chess, cue sports, shooting, archery, golf...you get the picture, where there isn't any form of contact between players and less physical component (relatively). Badminton, tennis, athletics yeah they can compete but it will be hilariously one-sided.

But at lower levels sure. Junior sides, lower division teams. In countries like Norway, Croatia, Serbia girls do play football, volleyball with boys but in 8th or 9th division instead of 1st division. In cricket I can imagine Perry, Mandana, Ismail playing with men in some lower division city league or with top U-16 boys (real U-16, not Pak/Afg U-16).

Same level, forget it. Indian U-16 boys beat USA women (world champs) 4-0, 5-2 a few years back in USA, followed by some U-15 local club boys repeating the feat. One can imagine what French men (FIFA champs) will do to them, 40-0, 50-0, few broken bodies...take a guess.
