Should we play both Jaddu and Ash in the XI overseas in Eng, RSA this year?

  1. 1. Both Jaddu and Ash in (away) Eng, RSA test series in near future?

    • Yes, all the time
    • Yes, most of the time, exception being green mamba
    • Never, only 1 will do

Surprising that before MCG/SCG both our ace spinners had played only 2 matches together: once in Eng (2014) and once in WI (2016). They won't be playing together in Aus again most probably since Ash is 34, Jaddu is 32 and niggles will keep mounting even for the latter.

- Both complement each other so well, one of the greatest bowling pairs of all time. Pretty good when they operate alone, but together better than sum of the parts. May not get as much success as in SC, WI but enough to keep opponents uncomfortable. Even if they aren't getting too many wickets, both are capable of putting a lid on scoring rate, keeping quicks fresh and ready to use in short, intense bursts....all the while giving skipper enough control on match proceedings.

- Allows the captain 5 bowling options every match and in 4th innings we will be really formidable with an attack of say Bumrah, Ishant, Shami, Ash, Jaddu.

- Both combine to form an ATG batsman, we have a reliable bank of avg 50-60 runs per innings with these two slotted at #7 and #8. Jaddu is at his peak (as good as specialist non-ATG batsman now) and Ash though declined compared to his pre-2017 self can clearly bat for both runs and time.....no genuine tailender is going to repeat that SCG blockathon.

Now if we are given green tops, we can play just Jaddu cos of his improved batting and electric fielding, Ashwin comes into the picture if opposition is stacked with LHBs or when Jaddu isn't 100% fit. We can go with 5 quicks on green tops in Eng if Bhuvi regains full fitness and Hardik is able to bowl even 10 overs per day. The Jo'burg 2018 formula: Bhuvi, Ishant, Bumrah, Shami, Pandya.

Thoughts?

Yes both have hit the phase of their career where they understand their games at best and has the body to execute it . Both gives great balance.

We shudnt be scared of injuries considering the bench strength we have.

Sa wont give us a green top specially with their batting.

Ill say keep shankar n pandya as well incase one is injured or that unexpected green mamba comes . We shud carry big teams overseas from now on.

An alternative 4th option for me: only on flattish decks. Most of the pitches we have played on in Australia have been pretty flat. On those types of pitches, playing both Jaddu and Ash can work like it has this series. It would also have worked in NZ, since NZ conditions are very similar to Australian conditions.

For SA and ENG, I don't think it's the best option, considering those are the two most fast bowling friendly countries in the world. Ashwin doesn't provide the best option, assuming every one of our players are fit and ready. Playing both is more of a defensive option IMO.

For me:

In England the combination should be

1) shaw/agarwal/new opener 2) gill 3) che, 4) virat, 5) rahane/new batsman, 6) pant, 7) jadeja, 8) pandya/new fast bowling allrounder 9) bhuvi, 10)ishant, 11) bumrah

In SA

1) shaw/agarwal/new opener 2) gill 3) che, 4) virat, 5) rahane/new batsman, 6) pant, 7) jadeja, 8) pandya/BK/new fast bowling allrounder 9) Shami, 10)ishant, 11) bumrah

Pandya and BK are chosen between in SA based off of who is contributing better in both areas. A new fast bowling allrounder can also be slotted here in their place

Rahane could be replaced in both teams if a new, better young batting option emerges.

Agarwal can be replaced with a better opening option, ie a new player

Pandya must start bowling again, won't cut it as a pure batter. Maybe TM isn't rushing him keeping in mind this year's T20 WC. But he didn't even bowl for MI, not even a couple of overs.

Bhuvi not sure about his fitness but would love to see him play the tests in Eng, has been such a long time since we last saw him in red ball cricket and we missed him in 2 countries where he would have been most useful :wall:. Him, Ishant, Bumrah for me in England....Shami has a terrible record with the Dukes there....methinks Jaddu/Ash offer more than him in English conditions.

BK is essential in England.

Bowling, more or less yes. The idea is to have multiple players who can do it both ways.

I'd also add Pandya to the mix as I will get 3 All-rounders who can bowl and as well as bat. Throw in Rishabh Pant at #5, we would get a solid middle-lower middle order.

Pant at 5, Pandya at 6, Jadeja at 7 and Ashwin at 8. Through and through left and right combo to boot. And since we already have three bowlers in this order, i can add one more of either a specialist bat or a specialist bowler.

Yes for sure. We have been trying to find that seam bowling all-rounder for years now like Binny Pandya , Shankar but all this time we had this two brilliant bowlers with us. Jaddu is now ready to play at no 6 and Ash is now in his peak to deliver overseas. Playing us both gives us the best chance of winning. Imagine this bowling attack

Jaddu ( Wicket to wicket , can chip in with a wicket or 2 in first innings, can hold one end and be deadly in 2nd innings)

Ash ( Can run through the team's even in 1st innings)

Bumrah ( Leader of the pace attack)

Ishant ( workhorse, keep hitting the line and length)

Shami ( can be ruthless to the tail and once the ball starts reversing)

This can be the ATG attack we are looking for to win in SENA
